Ok here it goes. I was talking to my sister this morning. I told her a few days ago to ask her stylist what I need to do for my hair. It's getting longer, and harder to control. Her hair (my sister) is 100% natural, and a little past the bra strap. She wears the press and curl. She gets weaves every now and then to give her hair a break. She has a professional stylist doing her hair every few weeks. Her stylist specializes in growing natural hair. I've seen her stylist when I went to visit a year ago, and her hair is longer than most people can afford to get thier weaves.(Think Aaliyah long hair.) That's pretty long. Well here's what I found out. Her stylist told her to tell me, to get rid of all the junk I use. She saids it probably not helping my hair. She said my suave coconut doesn't cut it. (how dare she say that  ) She told her to tell me to get professional products. Stars always have great hair, and they use professional products. Her claim is you get what you pay for in a product. She told me to try Paul Mitchell, their products are superior to most, they make some shampoo & conditioner called Instant Moisturize. (it doesn't have SLS in it). She said to get that. Then she said I needed a good moisturizer for every day. She recommended KeraCare Jojoba Oil Moisturizer. She also said if I wanted to get a good gel Paul Mitchell, or KeraCare. (I don't use gel.) I was told to use the Paul Mitchell as a deep conditioner treatment once a week mixed with olive oil, sit under a hooded blow dryer with a plastic cap for 30-35 minutes. She said that will keep my hair soft, and less breakage. She told her once I find a good professional product to work, stick with it, she said people try, and use too many products on thier hair. She also said you only need a trim about every 6 months with natural hair. There was a lot of more good advice, but I just thought I would tell you, her main point was for me to go get good products for my hair, cheap stuff isn't as good, that's why it's so cheap. Shampoo needs to be ph balanced. I want more length, so I'm going to try it. It would even be nice if my hair was just a little softer. I don't plan on using the KeraCare Jojoba. I think I will use the Hollywood Olive Cream Hairdress instead. I will let everyone know about how the shampoo and conditioner goes. My sister uses Paul Mitchell, but it's not what the stylist told me to use, because press and curl natural hair is different from all natural no heat hair. I wish I had time to tell you everything she said. I'll keep you posted.

Most of what the stylist said *seems* reasonable. I've read that having Ph balanced products does nothing for your hair, though.

I think that the key to this whole thing is to do *what works for YOU*. Unless this stylist has examined your head, she really can't be the end all authority on what might or might not work for you.

@nappgirlcurl.... I agree with you, I just asked for advice because my hair is getting crazier the longer it gets, and since me and my sister have extremely close hair types, I thought it would be good to ask what her stylist does. I just thought I would share it in case anyone was like me, and running out of things to try. If anyone has any advice, please help me. I've tried the no poo method, and my hair doesn't play that. I'm working with a minimum of 3 different textures on my head. One texture is soft waves on top, then wiry curls on the sides, another is soft coily spirals on the back, and straight hairs in different spots. Now that I got more length, I can't seem to please all textures. Things were way easier with my TWA, but I want length, and cutting it isn't an option for me. I long to have two cute little afro puffs down low on my head. My hair is growing fast, and its on its way, it's just getting harder to take care of in this in between stage with so many textures. If what the stylist says works, then I will call her the bomb, and if it doesn't I will have wasted way too much money and I will be calling her other things. It's worth the try in my eyes. I'm open to other suggestions, so if you have them please help.
