This is the email I sent motions..
I hope you know by now that the comic book ads are
offensive. What market are you appealing to, young
Black women who are very insecure therefore easy prey
for monsters like you? You should be ashamed of this
I can't believe you have the nerve to claim this as
your product. Cutting down people. Please give me a
valid reason why you think this type of thing should
be tolerated by "our" people. No people should be
suggested to this type of ridicule. Would it be okay
to market other comic strips about ways for Asians to
correct their slanted eyes or a comic about ghastly,
pale white people and how they can fix this problems?
I find it disturbing that you find my hair as a
problem that needs to be fixed. While your in the
process of helping the Black race fix the problems
that we have with our nappy hair why not remedy the
dark skin, big lips, wide hips, and large buttocks
too. Because obviously this is what young Black women
need to catch an attractive partner according to
"Bling Bling Baby". Because straight, long hair does
equal beautiful, correct?
By the way my comb doesnt' break off in my hair when I
comb it, "Big Girl's Chair". This is something I
thought you should now since obviously you know
NOTHING about taking care of a Black woman's hair.

If that isn't the most condescending response, I don't know what is. That fact that it was signed 'The Expert' instead of an acutal name should tell you something. I really do not think we are being taken seriously!! It sounds almost like they are joking with us. Motions is absolutely foull!!

Ugh! :burningmad: What a horribly unprofessional and unconcerned reply. They almost sound as if they're mocking buckeyechick's email. I would expect more than a short smart-alecky paragraph from supposedly "proud AFRICAN AMERICANS" who offended a potential consumer. I definitely won't give them anymore of my business.

Do they have 13 yr old's running their PR and customer services operations?
I love a lot of motions products, but i guess I will have to be actively seeking out an alternative.

By any chance, did anyone send them a written complaint about these ads?...Just curious...

Buckeyechick,
I am so glad that you sent Motions a letter! Good for you....no good for us! It's unfortunate that your grievance seem to fall on deaf ears! But that's okay, there's more than one way to skin a cat....a fat cat! Hit 'em wear it hurts....in the pockets!
Today I started a thread about Ebony, Luster Raveen and Duke and I am not to happy with them right about now. I also mentioned Motions in the thread too. My comments are below:
And MOTIONS, they think they are slick as well! What is with the lady with the basketball in athletic gear all about? You know darn well, many sistahs with relaxers avoid athletic activities because they don't want to mess up their hair! I am certain many of you can attest to that!
Anyway, I am glad that someone took the initiative to express their dissatifaction with this company! If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything!
Good work! I do not consider myself a wordsmith or word warrior, but I will definitely be sending the aforementioned companies a letter to express my displeasure with them.

There was a comic book ads that they were running about 4-6 months ago, that were very offensive. They showed a little girl getting her combed and the comb breaking in it, a sad single mom who gets a ghetto faboulous fairy god mother to relax her hair so she'll beter, stereotypical stuff that degrades Blacks. I went to the website and I couldn't find the comic so they finally removed it.

Hello Ladies! I just picked myself up off the floor from cracking up, so now let me share the joke:
In the epic MOTIONS tale of "The Big Girl's Chair" The lazy Momma reaches out for help from the beauty school dropout MARGO about not being able to control her daughter's hair and wanting to keep the little girl's hair virgin.
Margo replies AND I QUOTE " VIRGIN HAIR?! Girl you must be living in the dark ages! Virgin Hair went out with the dinosaurs."
:doh
In thats case I want to be the Tyrannasaurus Rex, SO I CAN CHEW MARGO UP AND SPIT HER OUT. Not because she is promoting Motions, hey, thats her job. Its not cool when she downs someone else's decision for their hair. And poor lazy momma...easily persuaded. She should have hung up the phone immediately after that comment.

I mean seriously who talks like that....
"Aw'ight".....and I think one of them said "the bomb-diggity"
I am from the hood and no one I know speaks like that. Its like they tried to use every bit of slang available.
And how does Kim credit her marriage to LEO the C.E.O...to her hair products??? The part that blew me away was where LEO goes...
"Man! She's Fine"....and she says to her self..."Ching Ching"
That was the biggest load of **** I have ever seen in my life.
And that virgin hair comment was a mess!
They are AFRICAN AMERICANS too huh....well God blessed them!
I guess their ignorance is bliss!
What are they trying to teach young women?
I think they need to get put on blast.
I mean a serious boycott or something to that affect.
I have never purchased their products, and after this I never will!

Motions had a comic strip about a young Black girl's first relaxer. The girl was like 8 and in one of the comic strips the girl is shown with a broken comb in her head. Another was about a super ghetto, stereotyped single Black mother with nappy hair that couldn't leave the house to party because her hair wasn't straight. There were more that were equally as bad. I wished I had saved it through. A couple of months ago I went looking for the site again and now they have taken it down.

Hello,
I emailed Motions on their offensive comics (It doesn't show up here, but in the email she sent back there was a picture of one of their models who happens to be laughing, also there were smiley's that were sarcastic)and this is the response I recieved from Audrey Wells:
Hi Erica!
We're soooo sorry! We never meant to offend! It was only a comic, directed towards relaxer clients worldwide!! And guess what! It has been out of circulation and print for approximately 2 years!
Please, please forgive us!!
We love your beautiful, natural hair, too, with awesome, hair-celebratin' conditioning shampoos, moisturizing conditioners, and shinin', holdin' styling products!
Take Care!!
So,
