    Default New hair trends

What new hair trends have you noticed recently?

Is it just me, or is the flat top making a comeback? I've seen a few on men this week. I must say, I'm loving it! Whether it's a trend that will make its rounds in the mainstream market, or if it's just something local to Los Angeles, I'm digging the look of a well tailored flattop. haha.

There's a guy that's rocking a hightop fade and carrying an 80s style boom box on his shoulder that I see around the apartments.....

Threw me for a loop, LOL!

In the last couple of years, I've seen a discernible lot and seemingly increasing frequency of Frohawks.

Another potential trend I've seen, perhaps in the wake of Willow Smith, is very young children with various combos of locked, straightened, loose nappy, and/or shaven sections. It seems like parents are more comfortable with the prospect of their sons and daughters not only having what were unconventional and/or remarkably stylish cuts but also eventually perhaps starting from scratch.

If your import amid discussion is to ridicule, sabotage, and/or dismiss, you will no longer receive the privilege of my attention. Passive aggressive behaviors are a defense mechanism of oppressed and ultimately even self-defeated persons. Disregarding and/or ridiculing the concerns of others doesn't legitimize or address your own. You have betrayed a critical trust I must have in you that you are engaging or asking of me to enhance each of our perspectives rather than ridicule mine or reaffirm your own biases. Express your own concerns and/or support your own ideals. Your antics reek of repression and aren't constructive.

funny you would mention flat top. I'm in the midwest and have been seeing young men with that hair style recently. Just noticed a nice one yesterday as a matter of fact when I was in the grocery store.

Natural hair in general is the trend that I'm noticing out my way that I hope goes on long enough that it's just the norm and no longer a trend. There's a young lady in my dance class who wears a scarf all the time. Yesterday, now a couple of days ago, she told me that she's been natural for three years but still can't bring herself to go without a weave or a wig.

Interesting since in just our class alone, I can count 10 or more women (not accounting for women with locs) with various kinky nappy textures and of various lengths who wear their own hair all the time. So it's not like she doesn't have plenty of nappy role models. I'd love to chat with her more to find out what's going on that she's still not comfortable wearing her own hair.

The trend I'm noticing is that women who formerly laughed at my nappy hair(25 years ago) are now perming their hair after jumping on the nappy hair train for a few years. They claim they can't be natural for a variety of reasons.

I've noticed this trend too. It's seems to be the trend to be natural for a few years then relax or straighten constantly to show length because being completely natural "wasn't for them".

I saw a guy with the "box-fade" talking to Sasha and Malia at the inauguration.
My DH said, "Is that a hi-top fade?... They're coming back?"

^^ He is Obama's nephew, Avery.

Kid from Kid N Play had something to say about Avery:

“It's a throwback 'do that never should've happened ... "I think that flat-tops should not come back ... It's an old style that now looks stupid to me."
Kid added, he doesn't want to "blatantly bash anyone" ... but said Avery needs "to get out of the time warp."

    Whatever Kid!

It must pain "Kid" then to know that half the young NBA players are wearing either fros or hightop fades. Sorry bro the trend is already back in full force.

I seen some young men round here wearing the retro look. Seen a few wear it "messy" with a edge up. Looks good on em. Oh and a young fella with a two inch afro dyed brown.
    Mango Smoothie...try one.

No flat tops yet in Montreal but the brothers with dreads is getting more and more common and I see more natural girls now during my daily work commute.

No flat tops in France either (that I've seen). But Rihanna has definitely made the side shave popular here...still.

I hope all the 80's and 90's hair styles come back. I already have big hair. I'm hoping the big bangs to come back in fashion.

Currently, afro puffs, afros, fro hawks, mo hawks, high tops (haven't seen a really high one), and the side shave (even a "fake shave" with gel or braids or the real deal) are what I'm seeing more of lately.

No, you don't. I will officially quit life and become a hermit if the Jheri Curl makes a reappearance on a grand scale.
