Default When should i retwist my hair? And How?

Ive only had my comb coils for a week and i am going back to the loctician to get it retwisted today. Some twists came out in the back and i have a fizzy afro thing going on. The locking process at this rate ($50 a retwist) will get very expensive for me as a college student. I was wondering if i could just retwist it my self every couple of days or so, and how do you retwist comb coils/ or put them in when they come out?

The easiest without any much learning or interacting with others might be sponge rubbing. The first video shows comb, rat tail, and finger twists. If you prefer doing the coils or twists yourself but find the angles uncomfortable and/or confusing, you might want to search your community for a woman (as typical) to exchange hair services with. You can maintain hers and she can do likewise for yours.

Someone else might have an insight on how to determine when healthiest to retwist.

I pull the hair as I'm twisting. It's so much easier to do it on someone else's hair than your own. - MsRosieVelt

I use a car wash sponge. it's much firmer. Using a soft sponge will not work. It’s the key. - queeny107

Cut holes in your sponge(take out circular chunks) as many as you can without letting them touch. After you have washed your hair dry damp. Apply your essential oils if you choose or your gel.. not too much to make it wet but moistened. Apply sponge to your hair using pressure, move sponge in circular motions stopping in the area that you see your twists.. when you see the twist form move to another area. Blow dry afterwards if needed for quick set. :) - QUEENATHAND

If your import amid discussion is to ridicule, sabotage, and/or dismiss, you will no longer receive the privilege of my attention. Passive aggressive behaviors are a defense mechanism of oppressed and ultimately even self-defeated persons. Disregarding and/or ridiculing the concerns of others doesn't legitimize or address your own. You have betrayed a critical trust I must have in you that you are engaging or asking of me to enhance each of our perspectives rather than ridicule mine or reaffirm your own biases. Express your own concerns and/or support your own ideals. Your antics reek of repression and aren't constructive.

The first few months your coils will unravel anyway, I started with coils too and I used to gently finger coil them, pin them down and keep them covered. Sometimes I braided them together. I know you are not supposed to manipulate your hair too much but like you, the unraveling bothered me.
It's a phase and will pass soon, you don't have go get a retwist so soon, save your money. I retwist every 4-5 weeksnow but when i first started I went in after 3 weeks. You will notice that as they loc, you will need your loctician less. I now rely on YouTube videos for DIY tutorials and saving a whole bunch of money.
ps: I am only 10 months in and pretty much fully loced, I'm just watching them grow....Good luck!
