I have always used 5 or less products. What I am currently using.

Shampoo- Tresemme mixed w/Olive oil (love it)
Conditioner-Tresemme
I use a little olive oil and watered down conditioner on my sections then I twist it up. Done.

My staples are:
2 poo bars (Summer Sunshine for clarifying and Rosemary Lavender)
Herbal Essences Hello Hydration
Sheaaloe
Qhemet Burdock Root Butter Cream

If I only used these my hair would be perfectly fine.

Other things that I use that I don't consider staples are henna, ACV rinses and a few different deep conditioners (which I'm narrowing down to 1).

I personally prefer a three step routine of shampoo, condition and moisturize, I'm not tied to any particular brands though I have a few tried and trues that I go back and forth between.

I don't know if I use that many... uh lets see... conditioner for co-wash, a shampoo bar for occasional poos, a deep conditioner, a leave-in condish (summer only, really) and aloe vera gel (year-round leave-in moisturizer). Looks like I'm right at 5 prods. that I use regularly (I could list Henna as an alternate, but I don't do it particularly often and unlike most folks I use it for color, not really for a treatment of any kind)

yes it can be done but hell if I can do it, lol. straight up pj right here!! I'm trying to tone down and minimize though. although I love 2 brands I was using, I realized that I really wasn't using them like that. so I got rid of them out of my routine. I'm also trying to minimize the number of online brands I use and use things available more locally to me. right now I only use 2 online brands (qhem and chagrin valley. as long as they are in business, I will never give those up.)

so lets see what I use... I could probably get buy on...
prepoo: olive oil (and use as a daily sealant)
shampoo: chagrin valley ayurvedic bar
conditioner: AO HSR (with some added olive oil, honey, aloe and ayurvedic herbs)
daily leave in: karens super silky
styling: qhemet burdock cream

hey who knows? one day it may come down to that.

Sometimes I switch things up depending on my hair needs. All I need to maintain my hair is shampoo, deep conditioner, moisturizer, shea butter and oils.

Thanks for your replies ladies.

I guess the next question tagged-on would be whether your 5 products or less are staples troughout the year or are you likely to use more in the winter months and less in the summer months?

My staple products are:

1. Coconut oil (pre-poo, detangle)
2. Castile soap (wash)
3. AO Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner
4. Alba Botanicals Leave-In (used as leave-in or a tiny bit diluted to spritz my hair in between wash days)
5. Jojoba Oil (to seal in moisture after spritzing)

This is my cold weather routine. During warm days of spring and summer, I use the coconut oil to seal.

Most of my other products (other conditioners, herbs and butters) I have because I was trying to figure out what worked for me. As I used them up or give them away, I won't rebuy.

The only addition I'll make to my list (#6) is a light conditioner suitable for co-washing. For now, that's Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle conditioner. I don't do it often, but it's great when my hair is extra dry, plus it has a little protein.
