I have to bump this thread. So much valuable information.

I've been suffering from a sore spot at the top of my head. It always scabs; when I was perming and well after having natural hair. Couldn't quite place my finger on what was leaving me with a reoccurring issue, but this thread helped a lot. Thanks all =)

    Question

should i see a doctor? is this normal?!?!?!
Is head and shoulders good on african american hair.?
because i started using it today on my hair.?

I've used it before and it works fine for me. Slightly drying but so is my Suave clarifying. I just make sure to oil my scalp afterwards and spritz my hair w/a light oil afterwards.

    HTH!

I get scabs sometimes with certain shampoos that irritate my scalp. ACV rinses, and applying olive oil and ACV to my scalp before I wash, helped with that. I don't grease my scalp. Sulphur 8, Head and shoulders, and Garnier fructis dandruff shampoo work well for me and I'm experimenting with shampoo bars now too. They don't irritate my scalp like some shampoos, but they don't clean my scalp as well, either.
Dermatologists will prescribe antifungal and tar shampoos and give u steroids to apply. Those work, but I am always looking for a more natural solution. HTH.
Before Nappturality I didn't know what those scabs were but now I know that it's seborrheic dermatitis! Once I started washing my hair more regularly and greasing my scalp w/Softee Hair Food w/vitamin E; the thick, flaky, scaly, scabs went away!!! I still get a touch of it here and there but I only notice it after I haven't washed my hair for over a week.

I am one who cannot go longer than 2 weeks w/out washing my scalp. I only use Head and Shoulders [the new one in the dark blue btl.] when I need to control flaking. I'm also using a light oil on my scalp once every 2 weeks, to keep my scalp calm. My scalp has never been calmer.
