I'm looking for a full natural hair care salon strictly in the metro atlanta/north georgia area. I've heard so much about the great salons IN Atlanta but I can't seem to find any salons in north georgia in my 3 short years living in the metro atlanta area. I've been to Afrodisiac and loved it but I'd really prefer a salon much closer to me. I'm in desperate need of a trim/cut.

Is there one? Help Please!

I was doing to some looking around myself. I want to get my BC done soon. I don't know how to go about doing it. Should I go to a barber.. should I go to a beautician.... I see that a lot of people do them themselves.. that is not an option. lol I'm not even going to attempt that. I saw a place called peezyheadz.. peezyheadz.com. Its located in little five points. I am thinking about going to them. I've been having some issues finding a natural shop myself. There is always the Purple Door salon.. but it will cost you......................... A LOT.

Thanks for the info on the salons in Duluth. I also live in the North Georgia area of Metro Atlanta. I will definitely check out the salons. Let us know what your experience is like if you go to either of the shops.

I went to the Natural Beauty boutique and only got a trim. It seems she specializes in sisterlocks and I was a little nervous with her cutting too much of my hair. She used a spritz to wet my hair then combed it out to do my ends but that's about it. She didn't even style it after she combed out the curls after the trimming. I went home and fully wet my hair to restore the curls. I got a good trim out of it but that's about it. I'm not sure how she is with styling but her trim was only 15 bucks so I won't complain.

I'll try Allure next time.

You can always go to the Talijah Waajid studio off of Ralph David Abernathy.

I have been here before, and natural hair is there specialty. It is more expensive that most places. Her site is naturalhair.org

Wow! I live in Duluth and I didn't know about these places! Thanks Kessable. Both of them are very close to my house!

I can't speak for northern Ga. But I can say that I again experimented with a new salon this weekend and will testify loudly that for my money, Afrodiziac is no. 1 in this area. Taaliah Waajid is a second due to pricing.

Peezy Headz=not the nicest environment, stylist friendly but couldn't understand updo request
Sweet Potato or whatever in L5P=Barely ever open, late for appts and upped price while you're in the chair.
Deeply Rooted=Questionable customer service, steam treatment not very effective
Curltopia=white salon with a single "natural hair" specialist who couldn't braid; specializes in Miss Jessie's products and everybody leaves there looking like Joan from Girlfriends

I went to Afrodisiac when I first moved to Georgia a couple years ago and thought they did a great job. However, I've moved further north since then and would prefer to stay local in getting my hair done. I've never tried Taaliah Waajid but have heard many great things about them. I'm going to try Allure next since they are closer to me. If they don't work out I'll end up going back to Afrodisiac or try Taaliah Waajid.

Glad I could help CNapp - hope they work out for you!!

Afrodisiac is a definetly no for me as well, owner does not take accountabilty for her screw ups.

Have any of you been to Curltopia by Kristen James in SMYRNA? I was there last week. They specialize in curly hair. Check out their website at www.curltopia.com

Hey ladies,
I always recommend Afrodisiac. I've been there about 3 times and I always had a good experience. I haven't been there in the last year and am suprised to hear about the bad reviews. I was planning on going there in December. What's up ladies.. what happened? Should I try somewhere else?

@Kylasbibi - How was Curltopia? That's about 40 mins away from me. I checked out their website and if they are any good I think I will try them.

Afrodisiac was terrible when I went there last year. Like someone else posted, she does nto take any accountability for mess ups and she is unprofessional on so many levels. Plus I would feel more comfortable going to a salon instead of going to an apartment. Maybe she has a salon by now but I would never go to her again. I would rather pay more money at T. Waajid and have them do it right.
I just wish they had more natural salons on the east side. (I-20 around Lithonia or Conyers/Covington). I guess I am stuck driving into Atlanta whenever I want to get my hair done or get a trim.
I would also like to hear about any experiences at Curltopia. I am trying to decide between going to them or Urbanella to get started with Miss Jessies products.

Has anyone tried "Oh my nappy hair"? I did a search and it came up. I'm visiting this week in Fairburn and I was thinking about getting my BC done.

I haven't had any of the ladies at Urbanbella do my hair but I was pleased with their customer service. I went there to get some MJs products while I was in the city and before I found a spot down here in FL. They are kind of pricey too but from what I saw, they do good work.

@Georgia Apple - I can't speak for anybody else, but only oncde have I had a bad experience at Aphrodiziac. It was a time when I was trying to get an updo with extensions and Fatima really wasn't able to make it happen the way I needed it too. But otherwise, she has been excellent. I won't deal with anybody else.

Oh also, and maybe this has something to do with my experience: I've never been to Aphrodiziac when it was in her apt. She has a very nice salon. But I still can't imagine that her hair skills were weak when she was in her apt. If you want a sista to hook your twists up FAST, she is the one.

I went to ROYAL CROWN for the first time a week ago and was very pleased with all the staff and the service. My brother and I both see Shantae. We found the prices to be very reasonable and were happy with how she handled our crowns. Shantae used only an oil mix that I was hesitant to try at first but my hair felt great and much lighter than usual. I will def be seeing her again.
I can provide her number if anyone would like it.

I went to Oh my nappy hair this summer...hated the way my stylist treated my naps. :(o)I'm in no way tenderheaded but she was rough housing my coils, lol. Anyhow, this may not even help because I don't remember her name.

Kessable - I'm in Alpharetta too. Unfortunately, there aren't too many choices for us up here. Personally, the drive to Curltopia to see Tas is worth it for me. He isknowledgeable and thorough although service was a little slow when I went. Of course I had a lot done the last time I was there. I've seen 2 or 3 other stylists there that do very good work as well but I'd prefer to stick with Tas.

Does anyone go to Yaffa Hair Studio-454 Flat Shoals Ave Atlanta 30316 404-230-9111? Haven't been there in years but when I did go, it was nice. It's in East Atlanta, I-20 Moreland Ave exit.

I have finally found someone that I LOVE...her name is Toni West @ Babe Savage in Stone Mountain. Hwy 78. 678-836-9852.

Her first concern is healthy hair, and she is a Gr8 stylist for natural hairdo's

Tell her Lola referred you.

I'm glad I didn't go there! I ended up doing my own BC and having my stylist in Alabama shape it up. Thanks for the info!

I can comment on a quite a few salons.

TW( went there for my 1st cut-tiny afro). At the time a lady named Tears did my cut. It was fine and I knew what I had to do. She then moved to another salon located in the Veggie Resturant up the street0right next to royal crown barber..cant think of the name at the moment.
After dealing with her now named Gelah, I went to Tammen @ Royal Crown who got my hair back to a natural state with comb coils. My hair was very healthy and he did very good work. I stopped going to him b/c he could not style.

I then went to Afrodesiak(?) through the recommendation from this site and did not meet with Fatimah, but Shana. They were in the studio by Magic City and overall it was an ok experience. Shana did my color, but my hair was not as healthy as it was with Royal Crown. They moved to her brother's apt in buckhead, still ok job, and then to Shana's apt. That was the last straw for the the prices charged.

So back to searching...
I found Cat Belle throgh this site and at the time she had just opened a shop in East Atlanta. I loved the vibe there. I used her to begin my loc journey (2 years this month). She is no longer in her shop but out of her condo in L5P.
Let me tell you I could not have immagined my hair being in the state that it's in (healthy, fully locked, and length). I started out with two strands and I now have color. she is the SHIZNITS!
Her prices are reasonable and she uses a shampoo bowl and hair drying (unlike getting hair washed in the sink, and people still charging $60).
Pics are worth a thousand words and I often do not visit this site ofen, but if you want pictures, PM me.

My two strands were about 2 inches long and now my locs are just past should lenght and looking FAB!
