View Full Version : Press & Curl at home...

I've had plenty of press & curls done at the salon...but never at home. My hair's been afro'd up for 5 years and I'd like to one day just press & curl it by myself (and save $$). But I don't know what products to use, other than a flat iron - although I do want to cut down on any oils or grease. Suggestions?

Hi there! Welcome to NP :)

As a part of the site rules, talk about straightening hair and the use of blowdryers, flat irons etc isn't allowed.

NP doesnt advocate the use of heat or any other methods to straighten hair, so you're not going to find much advice. In fact, this thread will probably be closed. :(

not sure about what happened with my last post but NP doesn't advocate straightening hair, even non-chemically treated hair. in fact, there's a board rule against it so this thread may be closed.

jst wanted to give you a heads up

Hi Jelover...we don't promote heat styling on NP (check out the new homepage). But there are lots of threads on styles that can be done without heat...twists, twist out, braids, braid outs, buns, wash n gos, roller sets, fros etc.

Hi,
we don't discuss the use of heat on this site as it is not a part of the mission and can permanently damage your hair. See the H.ot Comb & B.low Dry Archives (http://www.nappturality.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=53) for more info on that.
Feel free to ask away about other styles and methods though:)

hi jelover9 you wont really find advice on how best to press and curl since this site is about wearing your natural texture and not altering with heat or chemical treatments so its not allowed to be discussed but you will find plenty of advice and ideas on different styles for your afro if your getting a little bored.

Whoa...sweetie. I'm not recognizing you. Are you new to NP...a brand spanking new member? Well if so, I just want to let you know that we don't recommend ways to straighten our hair on NP. We're totally committed to wearing our hair in its natural state. That's not to say that members here don't straighten their hair, but if they do, it's not discussed here. Plus, it can be very damaging. There are plenty of hair horror stories about having it straightened once and suffering irreversable damage. Check out the heat archives. Once a mod sees this thread it will likely be closed.

Also, know that if you want a stretched style, you can try a heat free roller set. Do a search in the Natural Styles Workshop forum and you'll find plenty of info on how to accomplish this. Whitley Gilbert has done them with wonderful success.

On the old site we had a whole section devoted to heat styling, but here is the basic info.

Yes, I am new to NP and didn't read the front page at all until today. I apologize about that. If I could, I would delete the thread but don't see any options to, so an admin will just have to delete it.

You're not the first or the last who'll ask a heat related question so no problem. Take care and welcome to NP.
