I am sure most of you have heard of the "Hair Lady" Robin who is owner of the website WWW.GROWAFROHAIRLONG.COM (http://www.growafrohairlong.com/index.html). Well she has a Technique called the Crown and Glory Technique. I have decided to challenge myself for 6 months starting Jan 1, 2010 ending June 30, 2010. I will make sure to record and take pictures of all my progress on my YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FM0yBO02RdU) page. I challenge anyone to take this challenge with me...My goal is to grow 1-2 inches of hair a month....

I will also be taking my GNC Hair Skin and Nail Vitamins along on my challenge.

I will post a list of all the products that I will use with the regime from Jan-June...Once I do my research on the best products most "swear" by!!

I challenge your to GROW YOUR HAIR LONG!!! LETS GO!!:D})8);)

I am curious to know what the "crown and glory" technique is but it doesn't really say... can you explain?

afrosunshine
12-24-2009, 03:53 AM
Well it is just a combination of techniques....if you look on the top of the website there are regimes on how to come your hair, growing your hair with braids, washing your hair, etc...

The Crown and Glory Technique is just following her methods when styling or washing your hair. Hope that helps.8)

I heard of the technique a while ago but I forgot what it is and I can't find what it is on the site either...

Yeah, it confused me too. What I gathered from it is that it's basically using her products to grow your hair out. I didn't quite get the whole technique part. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought with a technique, you could use any product that's similar, but like I said, maybe I am wrong. I wish you the best of luck afrosunshine. The whole site just really has me lost. lol I feel like a deer in the headlights.

I have checked her techniques, and I can honestly say that I do not do things as she suggests, I don't really know anybody who does....So I will be making sure to comb and shampoo and braid my hair as she suggest. But I did not find it that hard to understand...so if everyone who has posted has already been using these techniques, great! I just want to try it for six months being disciplined, and not straying away....that's all...I guess if you feel like its a waste of time on your part fine....then fine....there is nothing I can do about that...but any-who my challenge starts Jan 1st I will post pictures and video links....if you are interested, WATCH! If not...don't watch, it's just not that serious!! lol...Happy Holidays!!

Hun, no one thinks you are wasting your time. The reaction is most likely because a lot of us find nothing new about the information she is presenting. This "technique" for the most part is just good hair care practices that can be found within the pages of Nappturality (minus the section about heat sealing your ends). Congrats on the find. Happy Holidays to you as well :D

Afrosunshine ... its not a waste of time... I think were just bias towards NP (true aalllll natural hair care). this woman Robin and her site are advocating relaxed and straighted hair.....

(Np forum misson)
"We don't allow posting about the benefits of relaxing your hair because at Nappturality, there are no benefits. Post which discuss how to change your hair's texture or straighten it will be deleted." <--- hardcore huh?

Just the woman seems like a KOOK lol. claiming that braid outs, braid extensions, etc etc are a part of HER special "technique" is funny. (TE HE) as if we didnt know braids (a protective style) helps hair "grow" (retain length)

we all know how to turn on a light switch - but because you spin around 3 times and touch your nose when you do it - doesnt make it a new technique

we were tryin' to "get at chu" like that...
no hard feelings?

Post pics of your results!

I was confused when I finally saw the website after hearing about it so much. A technique to me is like Step 1: Do this. Step 2: Do that and so on and so forth. Her technique is actually common sense basics on taking care of your hair. Which is fine, I just thought it was some magical special thing.

Oh well good luck!

I don't understand what's so difficult to understand about the C&G method based on the website. If you click on each link at the top, it basically tells you everything you need to know. Yes it does involve "taking care of your hair". However, it is obviously more to it than just "common sense" if more people are able to gain healthier, longer hair while doing it her way opposed to their own way. If it was "common sense" A LOT more ppl would have long, healthy hair. Instead, you see ppl struggling to maintain length and keep their hair healthy from doing things that are considered "common sense" by many. Like Oasis stated, A LOT of people get great results with this. Don't knock it until you try it.

As far as humidity drying out hair, it can. Humidity causes excess moisture in the air and can cause the hair strands to actually expand.

I would join but I just don't feel like taking time to braid my own hair and I don't feel like paying anyone to braid it for me. Afrosunshine, if you do her technique I'm pretty sure you will get great results. Everyone who I know who does C&G are ALWAYS pleased with their hair growth and health. Post pics!!! :)

My hair is all natural, and I don't endorse changing the texture of your hair and I do not believe she does either...I was definitely referring to the section on NATURAL HAIR CARE....hmmm so do we not post products because they can be used for natural and "relaxed" hair, or do we not buy from carol's daughter or kinky curly because you can also use their products on relax and permed hair....her products are all natural(I have purchased in the past)...she never once said go out and get permed...lol...It's not like the information on her page is for sale...it's free info....if she feels that putting the steps together forms her TECHNIQUE then I am all for it....I pay attention to the natural hair part and it says nothing about RELAXING YOUR HAIR....I didn't put this post on NP to be attacked...I just put it on here to see if anyone wanted to follow the challenge with me or join....gosh.

When I first went natural in 2001 I learned about her site and used her suggestion and I didn't get the information from a natural website I got if from a yahoo site the 365 day challenge where alot of women natural or not were using her "Techniques".

It is not common since to anyone who is new to natural haircare or any haircare system. My niece is just learning about this stuff and she is in her late 20's and never heard of protective styles or air drying your hair or the difference in protein conditioners and other conditioners and why use one and use another one or any of the other things she is learning. Even C/O Washes. How many people knew about that before coming to NP or anyother website????ACV rinses???

OP can't wait to see your results..........

I think Robin's technique was meant to help people (like me) who desire to grow their hair long and are not able to for whatever reason. There was a member on here who grew her hair out very long using this technique. She had an album and everything. I don't see her on this forum very much, but she locked her hair and maybe she posts in the locked section now. She grew her hair DOWN HER BACK then she locked it. The afro detangler product that Robin sells is awesome! If it came fragrance-free, I'd use it in a heartbeat, though I would need some oil to lubricate the strands. I also have to use three applications of her product before I get the level of moisture that I desire. At any rate, I think she offers some good tips. When I joined the "box braid challenge" my plan was to basically doe the crown and glory technique. I have much shorter ambitions. If I can get all of my hair (including my sides) to be neck-length, I will be happy. Anything else is gravy! Good luck all!

actually i found this lady's website a few months ago and really helped me...being clueless.

No offense to the people who made this website, i've been a long time member, but only recently began posting because the old format was just so unfriendly to me.

I know it's common natural hair sense, but lets say you got your first perm at five. Your mom has 3-A hair, and you have say 4 a-b ish or something. Needless to say I was NOT equipped with the proper tools, and as stupid as it seems now...washing in braids saved me, lol.

I find the diet info helpful, im looking to improve my eating habits even more than jus lean meats, veggies and lots of water, that chart posted about what foods have what vitamins is useful. 1thing that i picked up that i didnt kno was the need to protect the hair once it gets to a vulnerable stage in shoulder length (which i think i am VERY close to) thans for this thread OP!
good luck! I look forward to your results ;-) oh! I wanted to mention to do a search on np for the moisture protein balance test! It helped me soooooo kuch wen i was looking for my staple products, knowing if ur hair needs more moisture or more protien will help u decide between the many GREAT products out there ;-)

I think her website is very good and that is where I first found about shampooing and conditioning in sections. Just annoyed that I did not think of it myself as it has been a lifesaver for me. It used to take me over an hour to detangle but since using her methods it takes me about 5 to 10 minutes.

I did start the follow the braid regime but not long enough to see if it made a difference as I stopped wearing extensions soon after although you can do the method without extensions so it is open to all.

I have seen ladies on a couple of other forums that have grown their hair using her method with great success.

Please let us know your results :)

ETA from her site: "I used my Crown & Glory Technique to grow my hair this long. This Technique is for African decent hair textures to grow hair to its full potential. I wore braid extensions for 2 years to reach this length.

Your hair must stay in a certain condition while wearing braids extensions to have healthy new growth each time you take the braid extensions out. This is not a complicated regimen.

You do not have to have a relaxer to grow your hair long and strong, your natural hair will grow to its full potential as well. You can wear a natural Afro, natural cornrows, natural twists or wear a relaxer with or with out a LYE relaxer to reach your full potential. I have used this same technique to grow others hair as well. This technique does work whether you are a natural or processed. This information is free. See The Crown & Glory Technique."

i used her leave-in condish A LOT this summer and loved it. i would twist my hair up w/ it and leave the twists in for at least a week, wear a twistout for a couple of days and then start the process over. i was able to retain noticeable growth. i really liked that it kept my routine short and sweet.
i'll probably get back w/ it during the next couple of months. i've just been lazy and not wanting to do a lot of twisting!!
good luck and like everyone else said be sure to post your results!!

I hope folks really pay attention to this part right here when the focus in on length. This method helped her grow her hair long but it does not necessarily mean that another person's hair will grow that long or all down their back.

I guess the thing about this technique is that it just seems to be a combination of all of the stuff that people are and have been doing. Maybe because it's all condensed and on her site she gave it a name? IDK

Growing your hair long is all about retention. I truely believe everyone can grow their hair long. Now..everyone maynot be able to grow it to knee length or anything like that..but you can grow your hair to substantial lengths with proper retention techniques, such as the CnG technique.
