Hello everyone.

Basically, I wanted to embark on the challenge of wearing small individual plaits in my hair for about a month at a time. The thing is, after cowashing my hair last night and putting in leave-in conditioner and Qhemets AOHC, I didn't like the way the two braids I did turned out. My hair was damp when I began braiding it and I noticed that after putting the braids in, they were exTREMELY fuzzy. I wanted to stay away from using hair gel to get it smooth but it looks like there may be no way around that with my hair type. On top of that, all of my hair isn't of one equal length, which I believe also contributes to the fuzzies from the top of the braid to the bottom. This style was more successful last year when I was growing out my texturizer.

I really, really want to try this low-manipulating protective style as a way to retain length.

Any suggestions from fellow type 4's?

See the box braid challenge (http://www.nappturality.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119948). Just let them know that you want to do it for a month a at a time. There are a lot of 4s in the challenge and they can give you some tips. HTH.

When I braid, I saturate the entire section with my product and smooth it into the hair. Then I separate into three section to make the plait. As I do so, I continuously smooth the sections as I braid them.

Once I'm done with the braid, I get a pretty good lay of the hair within the braid. Now they eventually fuzz up a little and that's to be expected.

They also fuzz up when I rinse them and that's also to be expected.

You can tame your frizzies a little bit by blotting your braids with a towel (don't rough them up though) just squeeze each braid (or groups of braids) with a towel to get the excess water out. Spritz with your favorite moisturizer. If you're using some type of gel moisturizer, put some in your hand and squeeze it into your braids.

Let them air dry a bit. Then tie your head up with a scarf. In the morning, they should look brand new.

Here's a post I made on my blog that describes this in detail. http://nappyme.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/caring-for-box-braids/ in Caring for my box braids.

Hope this helps and good luck.
