View Full Version : Alternative Decor For The Holidays

You know what, for a very long time I was very anti-holiday not only cuz of it's commercialism, but it's cheesiness (if that's a word).

Now with me living on my own for almost 3 years now, i finally realized that I can do the holidays MY way. Last year I got started pretty late by simply making my Afrikan Chrimmus Wreaf (http://www.nappturality.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118151&highlight=wreath).

It's still up by the way, year round baby! }) Now, I'm gunna get me a pank chrimmus tree and put some funky handmade ornaments on it.

So do any of you ladies have "alternative" (basically, not the traditional looking) way of decorating for the holidays? Please share. Photos would be nice too!! (:-)

No alternatives... I avoid Christmas decorating. But when I saw your tree, I immediately thought about hanging left over colorful pasties from your birthday... and/or creating ornaments that reflects your character on the tree.

my co-worker suggested a big fushia bow on top of my tree too. she knows my tastes :))

i thought about making felt "Africa's" and crocheted ornaments for my tree. no pasties though! :p

KB, the pink tree is a cute idea. Last year I also made an Afrikan Chrimmus Wreaf (http://www.nappturality.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118151&highlight=wreath) after seeing you post about it on this board. Unfortunately, my sneaky friend made off with it so no picture.

She was inspired by my wreath to do a white tree with all white and black decorations. On the plain black ones like these http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRDQm8aQ5XhhhBDpHBKsDCPpO8K3mHQi Vu6rVKZwpF0oA2AgxS-2mmDolPe she spray painted white Andrinka symbols. And tied bows on the branches using ribbon like this http://www.cheerribbons.com/admin/uploads/1858_th.jpg (http://www.cheerribbons.com/admin/uploads/1858.jpg)

Have you decided what you're going to do with your pank tree?

11-18-2010, 05:35 PM
well the tree is already up. i plug it in every night since it comes with lights. now i'm thinking about what do i want to decorate it with. of all things i dont want it to be too overwhelming. still brainstorming and visiting craft blogs for ideas.

oneprettything.com is a good place to get decor tutorials, ideas & more.

I will have to check that site out. Don't forget to post pics once you finish decorating.

oh i wont forget ;)

omg, i was at Target yesterday and i saw a black mini christmas tree for only $8. i was SO tempted to buy it :(. i wish my job allowed holiday decor cuz i would put that mug up on my desk with pride.

Those are cute ideas.

I'm not decorating for the holidays. I'm not in the mood and I'm just lazy.:p

Hey KB!

I saw a beautiful black tree with silver ornaments in Macy's near the INC clothes... I would love to do that but my 5 and 6 year olds would have a straight REVOLT up in my house... Your pink tree is cute.. and the wreath.

KB love the pink tree. Borders Books has a 6 foot hot pink one that I had my eye on. Cost too much though.

My tree has a Diva-licious theme this year. Shoes, shopping, boas, feathers, tiaras, diamonds, etc.

There's some of everything tucked in the tree...including champagne glasses :D

There are more pictures if anyone is interested....follow the zebra prancing around in Hot Pank! (http://picasaweb.google.com/117064362205762497723/OtherThings?authkey=Gv1sRgCOX1jKqHgKH9Xw#)

I want your tree. Please be warned that I may try to get in your house and take that tree.
