I want to start rocking my afro....I am needing help in first time blow-out afro....

I read that you will need a blow dryer with a comb attached, and to put on cool setting...

What products do you use for this?

Why don't you try doing a braidout/twistout instead to stretch your hair out. I have worn plenty of afros and I have never used a blow dryer to achieve any of them.

Just braid your hair up at night and release them in the morning. If you want you can use a wide tooth comb, a little bit of product to add lubrication between your strands (I use a glycerin based comb out spray and I have had good luck with a product called "The Afro Detangler"), and gently, pick it out. No heat or blow drying utensils needed.

Examples of heat free fros I have done:

I agree with ms-gg and I also want to warn you against comb attachments. You have to be really careful with those especially if your hair is fine.

If you still want to use a blow-dryer, try the tension method. There are videos on YouTube demonstrating this. Good luck!

I don't use a blow dryer (Or that dreaded comb attachment! Broken pieces of plastic stuck in hair? No thanks lol). I do a braid out or twist out to stretch out the hair strands.

In addition to the great advice already given banding might be another option. I've only done it once and it was a while ago but I got a good stretched out fro. It was a little damp when I took the bands off so it wasn't stick straight but it was pretty stretched.

You can try using rollers and drying under the hair dryer. Sally's sell the colored plastic rollers, spray with setting lotion, roll the hair and sit under the dryer for 15-20 minutes. I use this method once every two weeks for my blow-out fro.

Plenty of options for stretching out your hair without a blow drier for a fro. For example, bantu knot the hair and release it in the morning for a curly fro. same deal with pin curls, or roller sets. You get a nice shape for your fro.

I think comb attachments are tools of hair torture for people with tightly coiled hair.
