View Full Version : Cool Weather Crops

Is anybody planting crops for the fall? I'm guessing these crops don't need as much sunlight so I think there's a possibility I can grow them in my very shady backyard.

I know kale and collard greens are popular but what about root vegetables? I cook with a lot of potatoes and carrots. Does anybody have any experience growing root veggies?:)

Is anybody planning their fall gardens?

I think I am going to do potatoes, carrots and spinach.

Yep I am..spinach,bok choy, carrots, various lettuces, turnips, kale and broccoli. Hopefully something lives long enough for me to eat it.

My goal for Saturday is start my collards, mustards, and lettuce. Maybe I should see if I can scare up some rutabaga seeds? Regarding root veggies, I tried carrots once...my soil wasn't soft enough.

I'v considered trying to have a cold-weather green veggie patch [e.g., collards, kale] through the winter. I would have to get one of those poly-hoop kits to cover them during the worst of the winter.
When you read about people doing these things, it sounds relatively easy.
