And I agree with Fuzziwuz: There are plenty of stupid black folks out there you can use this for. skittles, I'm sorry you're going through this and I can relate since I've been there (and still find myself there on occasion; I recommend meditation to start) but the one thing I kept thinking as I was watching that video was: I must have those glasses. NOW. My random thought: I'm not the same person I was 20 years ago; I'm a lot more jaded and hard-bitten. That said, I'm trying to leaven my cynicism with a little appreciation. Case in point: These two old folks in front of me in the express line at the grocery store today -- black man, white woman, each with their own cart -- just having this great conversation, getting all caught up with each other's lives and kids and grandkids, and taking their good old sweet time unloading their carts. Did I mention this was the express line? The checkout guy -- young kid -- shot me an apologetic glance but I just shrugged because I wasn't in any real hurry and sometimes it's nice just to see people getting along with each other. #antiscrooge

So I asked a friend of mine to bring me back a couple of ears hats from Disneyworld. The Minnie Mouse beanie was exactly what I was expecting since she had sent me pics for a few options. For my nephew I asked her to bring me a basic black one, mostly because I didn't want it to upstage my niece's hat. My friend then asked me what was his favourite Pixar movie, since he's not two yet, I went with Cars. I expected a basic black mouse ears beanie with the Cars logo on it. Instead I got this tricked out monstrosity. Luckily the buck teef and Goofy hat and ears are only held by a few stiches that can be easily removed.

Random Thought along similar lines: I sincerely hope those two (management) aren't expecting me to show up for work Monday after slapping me with a double shift at practically the last minute. Yeah, my check is going to look EXTRA nice with this overtime AND the holiday pay, but I HAVE A LIFE. And they could've gave it to someone else who actually needs the hours. But it is what it is; I'll TAKE the damned money, but when dance classes pick up again and these makeup-and-or-cosmetology courses pick up, THERE WILL NOT BE ANY DOUBLE SHIFTS. NONE. Okay I need to share this somewhere before I explode. I'm reading A storm of swords, the third book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. I avoided watching the TV series because I wanted to read the books however I had heard about the "Red Wedding" and people freaking out about it. I didn't know what it was exactly, just that it was gruesome, I also didn't know which book coincided with the event…

I read the part and Holy Mother of Hades! I can barley believe it, GRRM is an amazing writer he gave the reader a false sense of security (with the partaking of food and drink) with a few odd hints (the pretty girl as apposed to the ugly ones) and then all out pandemonium.

I read it a few hours ago and I'm still reeling, I think I'll let the passage sit in my head and will continue with the book tomorrow but Holy Mother I was not expecting what happened to happen.

On the flip side, I love the fact that this series lives up to its hype…GRRM is comparable to Tolkien, the story has strong recognizable characters, a well fleshed out world that follows it's own rules and the story itself is captivating.

I struggled through A Game of Thrones, had many false starts before I was able to really get into it, the second book was easier and now I'm about to finish this one and it's flowing by really quickly.

My biggest worry is that it's unfinished, GRRM can either be true to his work and conclude it as he has always planned to, or succumb to immense fan pressure and bleed it for all it's worth, effectively ruining it. I have had to break up with several series because of this, they started out strong or with promise and either got stupid, never developed (this is especially common when the lead is female) or went on for too long.

It's a hugely popular series and I just know people will get stupid wanting it to "go on forever" not realizing that good tales must have an end, for better or worse, and a good ending is far better than a longer series that ends once enough fans abandon it…something that I am seeing a lot of lately with books becoming big business.

He has said that he thinks it'll be done after 7 books, I hope he sticks to that and gives us an epic conclusion instead of stretching things longer than he anticipated.

On a side note, I see so many natural women now. Its almost rare to see someone with a relaxer nowadays. I remember when I used to see another lone natural out and about and would feel an immediate connection. We couldn't wait till talk about our journeys and what products we use. Now that there are so many of us, that special connection seems gone. I was on an elevator today with another woman with locs and we didn't say anything to each other. I was a little sad, but its good though because more people going natural can never be a bad thing. I always think of how much this site has played a part in the natural hair movement. I don't care what anyone says, this site has always kept it real and honest. People are still paranoid about heat damage and always feel the need to say a disclaimer when they do use heat. lolol!

My mom's locs are coming along nicely too! I'm so happy she went natural and I'm so honored to have done my first loc installation on her! She couldn't do sister locks since her hair had so much damager from weaves, but her scalp is filling in nicely. I never thought I would see the day when she would ask me to do a loc installation. It has brought us together a little closer too which is something I've wanted for a long time. I love NP so much! So much growth has been attributed to this site! So many helpful threads and so many insightful people. This site will always have a special place in my heart.

Tonight as I was playing aroung with my cable channels in order catch Toddrick Hall's musical intro at the Kid's Choice Awards, I ended up deleting 5 stations from my package and looking at the remainders, I am seriously wondering why I'm holding on to them and am moving closer to just going for a super basic package that will allow me to get the local news. So now, in addition to the 50 other things on my hobby/goal list so far, I've decided to learn a couple of new languages (German & Japanese) as well as to become fluent in the language I already sorta kinda know (French). I figure maybe in a couple years I can pick up some translation work here and there.


Anyway, I've noticed that I silently(!) correct people when they mispronounce German, Japanese, or French words that have become apart of English. One of those is über. In my mind, I sound just like the guy in the back seat.

And then I saw a little Arab(?) girl start touching another little girls afro-puffs. It was complete innocent curiosity, a pat-pat, that feels interesting, and then back to the game. For a second I was all ooooh no she di-int (then I took into consideration that they were both about 4 yrs old).

Girl in the puffs didn't even notice.

Hmmmph. Yeah ok she's only 4 but I'm still a little put off by the whole thing.

Last night, I seriously thought about hiring someone to write an essay for me. Thanks to my procrastination, I was left with yesterday and today to get it done. Searched high and low on the internet for a reputable vendor, but ended up finding a bunch of shady ones that had bad reputations. Decided that it wasn't worth it, sucked it up, and wrote the paper myself. I didn't need any problems of plagiarism accusations surfacing in the future. Plus, it was the right thing to do. :)
