Which songs are so raw and honest in their emotion that they almost make you uncomfortable? Songs that either because of the lyrics or the singer's voice really make you feel the pain their singing about.

I Can't Make You Love Me--Bonnie Raitt

Bitter--Me'Shell Ndegeocello

Wasted Time--Me'Shell Ndegeocello

If I Were Your Woman--Gladys Knight

The Promise--Tracy Chapman

Beloved Wife--Natalie Merchant

Ready for Love--india.arie

Lately--Stevie Wonder

Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer--Stevie Wonder

First Time Ever--Roberta Flack

*I love music by the way.*

My choices are pretty much heavier :D

Creed - My own prison (don't like them very much but this song is really good and you feel the pain)

Radiohead - Paranoid Android (his voice is... )

Pearl Jam - Black (can't say anything... just listen the song)

Stone Temple Pilots - Plush (I was in shock when I first heard this song, Scott Weiland is my favorite singer... he's junkie but anyway I think he's the  )

Soundgarden - Black hole sun (music, lyrics... )

Audioslave - I am the highway (Gotta :pumpheart: Chris Cornell!!)

Lionel Richie - Hello (don't ask me why, lol)

Puddle of mudd - Never change (the lyrics...)

There are a couple more...

<span style='color:blue'> Girl!!!!!

@ Ex-Factor... this is the song that marked the end, the REAL of my relationship with my ex fiancee... we had broken up, and stopped living together, but we were still seeing each other... one day we were lying in bed, and I&#39;d never really listened to the song, but as we lay there, I did.... and I just started crying because everything she was saying was just hitting home... he just held me and let me cry, but after that day, it was really, really over for us. that songs tears me up every time ( and I&#39;m not a cryer), so needless to say I don&#39;t spin L Boogie too often.

@Green Eyes, that song does it for me too...this song described to a tee how I was feeling when I was still messing around with the ex, before we knew it was all the way over.

The other songs that speak to me are

Sometimes, and When Will You Call by Bilal.... ESPECIALLY When Will You Call.... my heart just aches for him.

Always Will and Motel by Tweet

My Life, Be Happy, Not Gon Cry, No Happy Holidays and ESPECIALLY Never Wanna Live Without You by Mary J Blige... actually most of her "unhappy" songs, but those are the most heart wrenching ones, to me.

A Song for You.... Donny Hathaway&#39;s interpretation

Careless Whisper by George Michael

Don&#39;t Be Afraid, Love Can&#39;t Hide, Brand New Man, No Way, Tears Away by Faith Evans

Neither One Of Us... by Gladys Knight

ALL of Maxwell&#39;s Urban Hang Suite, and other things already listed here....oohwee!

oh boy y&#39;all,
so many, so many! I could go on and on...

Have you heard Jeffrey Gaines&#39;s version of the Roberta Flack song? ! Heart wrenching!!!!!!!

Also Aretha Franklin&#39;s recording of "Nessun Dorma" *shudder* I was bawling like a baby by the end.

Ooops - also forgot, as a Prince fan "Darling Nikki" , "Question of you" , "Under the Cherry Moon", "Cool as the other side of the Pillow" "How come you won&#39;t call me Anymore" "The Ladder"

Nicole C. Mullen:

My Redeemer Lives - I had heard this song before, but one time last month when I was listening to it, it had me in tears. She sings it so beautifully, and the lyrics ring so true.

Come Unto Me - Lyrics are beautiful and comforting.

@ Freestyle: It&#39;s interesting how you wrote down Black Hole Sun, because I was thinking about that song, too.

Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug. I used to think the song and vid were cool, especially towards the end where the lyrics are, "Without you everything falls apart. It&#39;s not as much fun to pick up the pieces." I still don&#39;t know to this day why I liked that song.

Mariah Carey:

Vanishing - Need I write more?
Till The End Of Time
The Wind
So Blessed - Such a very beautiful love song. Very appropriate for a wedding.
Can&#39;t Let Go - Not overly emotional, but you can tell she&#39;s heartbroken, and I just love that song anyway. :)

How could I forget Amel Larrieux&#39;s Make Me Whole. What an enormously, extraordinarily beautiful song!!! And the only instrument she has behind her is a piano. I love it!!!!!!!

Maxwell:

Gravity: Pushing To Pull - what a haunting song. Can you tell it&#39;s about being obsessed with someone or something? I was addicted to this song myself for a minute.

Also Overjoyed by Stevie Wonder made me cry when I was a teenager.

I Wanna Know What Love Is - the original 80&#39;s version.

That Whitney song you&#39;re referring to is "Saving All My Love For You." I remember when it first came out, every girl was trying to sing it, like her remake of "The Greatest Love Of All". Saving All My Love isn&#39;t necessarily a song that moves me, but I think most women can relate to the lyrics. :)

Drops of Jupiter - Train - Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded, I bet heaven is overrated, so tell me, did you fall for a shooting star, one without a permanent scar or did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?

<span style='color:blue'>3 in the morn&#39; tossing and turning it&#39;s late.
Just can&#39;t rest waiting for the phone to ring.
Will you call ring my phone girl
I hope you did not forget me
I can&#39;t sleep and I can&#39;t eat and I won&#39;t until I hear your voice
When will you call?
Three days ago rolled over to an empty bed
And I went to the bathroom and your toothbrush wasn&#39;t there.
Where&#39;s your clothes and where&#39;s your shoes
Got to start a new life without you
I can&#39;t sleep and I can&#39;t eat and I won&#39;t until I hear your voice
When will you call?
No notice no letter you just packed your **** and left girl
I deserve better
I treated you like no one else
How could you, you know I loved you and I thought this was true now we&#39;re through
What I&#39;m gonna do
Gotta start a new life without you.
Now we&#39;re through
What to do
Got to start a new life without you
When will you call...

Waiting for ya call
Waiting for ya call
Waiting for ya call, baby
Waiting for you to just sing a word in my ear and let me know that your hear forever.

Call me! Call me! Call!
When will you call.
For I&#39;ve been worried &#39;bout you all night for a long time.
(Call me...call me...CALL! When will you call?)
Get up and pick up the phone and let me know where your at.
Let me know what your doing. Now we&#39;re through. And I&#39;m without you.

I LOVE Iris by the Goo-Goo Dolls
It&#39;s in that angel movie with Nicolas Cage

Verse 1

And I’d give up forever to touch you,

cause I know that you feel me somehow.

You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be,

and I don’t want to go home right now.

And all I could taste is this moment,

and all I could breathe is your life.

And sooner or later it’s over,

I just don’t want to miss you tonight.

Chorus

And I don’t want the world to see me,

cause I don’t think that they’d understand.

When everything’s made to be broken,

I just want you to know who I am.

And I will always be drawn to the oh, oh,oh&#39;s of Lenny Williams I love You :)

Great topic! I guess my songs so far would have to be:

Bilal "When Will You Call"- Like Blumoonbabe said, will someone PULEEZE call him!!

Lauryn Hill "The Sweetest Thing"- I went out and bought the Love Jones Soundtrack mainly just for this song!

Sade "King of Sorrow"- Love the song and the video. Can&#39;t forget about "Is It A Crime","Smooth Operator", or "Kiss of Life" either! Man, does she get better with age or what?

Amel Larrieux "Infinite Possibities"and "10 Minute High" from her Groove Theory days- Always inspirational and her voice is so angelic...

Maxwell "Submerge" and "Till the Cops Come Knockin"- SEXY ain&#39;t even the word!!!

Meshell N&#39;degeocello "Fool of Me", "Dredlocs" and "Dead N*gga Blvd", heck, everything by her!

The Isley Brothers "Between the Sheets" and "Eternal"- Classic sexiness

Marvin Gaye "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You"- Anyone that can theme a WHOLE ALBUM about the trials and tribulations of a failed marriage is dope in my book!

Res "Ice King"- haunting hook (Although you are an ice king, everything that you gave to me, comes from the destitute and the torn, I can&#39;t live this life no more)...

N&#39;Dambi "Deep" and "From the Abyss"- I fell in love with her the moment I heard her tear it up on Silly E. Badu&#39;s "Next Lifetime (Live)" and I haven&#39;t gotten enough of N&#39;Dambi since!!

Speaking of Ms. Badu, "Next Lifetime", "Drama", "Green Eyes", and "On and On Part II" are all beautifully written...

Ambersunshower "Walter T"- a dedication to her grandfather

Sinead O&#39;Connor "Nothing Compares 2 U"- WOW!

There&#39;s more but I&#39;ll leave it alone for now! :D

And Ambersunshower did fall off quick, but I&#39;ve heard her on a few of Tricky&#39;s CDs.

Peniten. Philosophy - E. Badu [Makes me really think about the state of my People]

Beautiful - C. Aguilera (I am not generally a fan of hers)

blumoonbabe
07-10-2003, 06:14 AM

"Gloomy Sunday" by Billy Holiday
Sunday is gloomy,
My hours are slumberless
Dearest the shadows
I live with are numberless
Little white flowers
Will never awaken you
Not where the black coaches
Sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thoughts
Of ever returning you
Wouldn&#39;t they be angry
If I thought of joining you?

Gloomy is sunday,
With shadows I spend it all
My heart and I
Have decided to end it all
Soon there&#39;ll be candles
And prayers that are said I know
But let them not weep
Let them know that I&#39;m glad to go
Death is no dream
For in death I&#39;m caressin&#39; you
With the last breath of my soul
I&#39;ll be blessin&#39; you

Gloomy Sunday

Dreaming, I was only dreaming
I wake and I find you asleep
In the deep of my heart here
Darling I hope
That my dream never haunted you
My heart is tellin&#39; you
How much I wanted you
Gloomy Sunday  :(

My list:

Black Coffee(Ella Fitzgerald) --"I&#39;m feeling mighty lonesome, haven&#39;t slept a wink, I watch the door and pace the floor and all the time I drink...black coffee..."

Everything&#39;s Not Lost(Coldplay)-- towards the end, where he&#39;s just wailing his heart out--wow...

Divorce(Burlap To Cashmere)--Really pulls a whammy on me--even though I only catch about half of the lyrics at a time, it just builds up and builds up until it pops out of the speaker at you and grabs you...

Hands In the Air(The Waiting)--this song just kills me. Absolutely kills me...everything about it is so amazing and heartfelt and paints so many moving pictures

Don&#39;t Cry(Kirk Franklin & Richard Smallwood)--The vocal arrangement sounds like it&#39;s going to lift you up to heaven right along with it...

If I Could Make It Work In Life(Kevin Max, written by Rich Mullins)--check the lyrics in my sig line...

I&#39;ve got tons more, but you don&#39;t wanna hear all that...

Donnie Hathaway -- Song For You

The chorus where he says,

I love you in a place
Where there&#39;s no time or space

hits me soooo hard. Each time I hear it, I want to experience love exactly like that!

Unbreak My Heart -- Toni Braxton
Mama -- Boyz to Men (there is another song called Girl in the Life Magazine and Thank you In Advance that both give me the creeps. Is creepy an emotion?)
I Believe I Can Fly -- R. Kelly
I Still Believe -- Mariah Carey

gabriel - by lamb. The first line goes &#39;i can fly/ but i want his wings/ i can shine even in the darkness/ but i crave the light that he brings/ revel in the songs that he sings/ my angel gabriel

gorecki - by lamb - really powerful stuff. If i should die/ this very moment, then i wouldn&#39;t fear/ cause i have known completeness/ like being here/ lost in the warmth of you/ loving every breath of you/ stop my heart this moment/ or it might... burn/

lovesong - the cure - when i&#39;m all alone with you/ it makes me feel... like i am whole again/ - a really nice song. I quite like tori amos&#39;s version of it.

broken - bjork

i like these songs because the purity of the emotion comes through and hits you in the gut and does not let go until they are finished.
