I am a single woman who is ready to move out of state to Atlanta, GA (or a surrounding city) within the next six months. My question is just how much money should I be trying to save before I make my move? Also, what other preparations should I be making before I move. Any advice would be helpful since this is my first time moving out of state.

This varies depending on what you're planning to do here and how you're trying to live. Are you planning to be in an apt, townhome or house? Will you have a job already or will you find one once you get here? What part of the city are you planning to live in? Will you commute or take public transportation?

What's the cost of living where you are now compared to that of Atlanta? Use the Cost of Living Wizard at Salary.com (http://swz.salary.com/CostOfLivingWizard/layoutscripts/coll_start.asp)

General rule: try to have at least 3-9 months of expenses saved up/

This website may be able to help you with that: Realtor.com (http://www.realtor.com)

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions. I was born and raised in Atlanta and I now live 10 minutes outside of it in Douglasville, Ga.

That Cost of Living link is great!

Also check out Craigs List (http://www.craigslist.org). Decatur and Lithonia are also nice surrounding areas to consider. And make sure to bring a car with you.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the sites and they were great. I also found a link to a webpage called Promove where they help you find out about different parts of the Atlanta area (like crime reports, school info, grocery stores, gas stations...) for free. They can also help you find deals on apartments/townhouses/condos, which are my living pref. since its just little ol' me.

I recommend Findyourspot.com (http://www.findyourspot.com) to anyone thinking of making a move. It lists what cities, are most compatible to what you like or need.

Check it out! ;)
