Hi all,
last night, i commenced to follow through with my conditioning routine. I massaged a generous :-? amount of conditioner on my hair and scalp and put on a plastic cap. Sat around the apartment for about an hour and fell alseep. i woke up about 3 hours later, and was afraid that had done something wrong by sleeping with the conditioner :huh . Once i rinsed it out, my hair was sooo soft and managable. My question is, if i wanted to sleep with condtioner on my hair overnight, would it have any negative effects on my hair. :doh I might start doing this at least 3 times a week as long as there are no adverse effects. Has, or does anyone currently do this? Thanks!!!

I sleep in my conditiner overnight only after I shampoo. I've found that my hair doesn't feel the least bit stripped the following morning. I really can't comment on doing this on a regular basis, though.

I used to do it once every two weeks before I bought my hooded dryer...in comparison sleeping in conditioner all night was good , but being under a hooded dryer IMO was MO BETTA!

It shouldn't hurt your hair but after a while of doing this your hair may be coated and your might have to do clairfying shampoos more often.

It made my hair feel like SOS pad.

I think there is such a thing as overconditioning. I think this can happen to people with porous hair. The hair shaft takes up too much water and other stuff and bursts. It doesn't happen to everyone though. I personally notice a lot of breakage if I leave my conditioner in too long (over 1 hour). If you had success with 3 hours, and was willing to try overnight, I say go for it.

Once or twice a week should be fine... it's like Deep conditioning your hair... you really wouldn't do that everday...

I haven't done it, but know of many that have and they loved the way it made their hair feel the next day. I might try it.

I sometimes sleep with conditioner in my hair. It always comes out very soft in the morning. I do really do it often , so I don't know the daily effects.

I always sleep in my deep conditioner and have not had a problem yet.
The next day my hair is manageable and soft.

I don't do it as much as I used to because it caused parts of my scalp to itch.

my mouth dropped open when i saw this topic!

haha, it just so happens that i'm sitting here with a shower cap on my conditioned head. and it's been on since last night. my reason for doing it is because i was too lazy and tired to rinse it out of my hair.

like GalaxyGirl, i've noticed some scalp itching...especially around the nape area.

i wouldn't make it a habit to do intensive conditioning ALL THE TIME. there is a such thing as hair that is too soft and overconditioned...and it could cause it to break easily.

I sleep in my conditioner 2-3 times a week. I wake up to super soft hair that is much more manageable. I have even gone to work with conditioner on my hair all day. I would rinse it out when I get back home. I did notice without the bag on the head with conditioner it just coats the hair and leaves a waxy feeling. So I started sleeping with conditioner on with a bag and have only had great results.

I keep conditioner on overnight 2-3 times per month. This is my method of deep conditioning being that I don't use a hooded dryer. I have nothing but excellent results... soft, very detangled, shiny hair after airdrying.
