Hello ladies!
Have any of you ever used Minoxidil to cure your alopecia and have any of you had any success with this?
I have only been using it for 3 weeks where I have to apply it twice a day. I am trying to be very optimistic about this treatment as I believe you need a good attitude for you to get the results you want and it was given to me by a trichologist so fingers crossed lol.
I know that its takes about 4 months to start seeing any new hair growth so I have a long way to go.
For those of you who do not know, Minodoxil is also known as Rogaine/Regaine so if any of you have used this with success and managed to get back a beautiful fro :afro: please let me know so I can be inspired by your success.

To those who are not doing this treatment, please tell me what treatments you have used that have worked as a sister always needs a back up plan

I am taking vitamins and exercising regularly to help given my hair the best chance at regrowing at the temples.

All comments and contributions will be appreciated

I've been using for 6 months with no noticeable regrowth. I'm going to give it another 6 months but I'm going to change how I apply it. This time, I'm going to measure the spot and only use it in that exact spot. I may have been trying to treat an area that was too large. Even if there's no change, I may continue using it. It could be that it would be worse without the minoxidil.

A suggestion: Take a picture of the treatment area now and then take it again in 4 months.

Good luck.

I have an aunt who used it and it worked for her but she told me that she doesn't recommend it because it makes hair grow EVERYWHERE and as soon as you stop using it, all of the hair that you have grown falls out. It's something that you have to do forever..or for as long as you want that hair.

I went to a trichologist for the same reasons and she has her own, all natural products that have worked wonders for me. Her website is www.lisaakbari.com. She is based out of Memphis but she does free phone consultations (has a toll free number listed on the site) and will advise you as much as possible over the phone.

Thank you for your replies. I really hope that this works as I have trued many things in the past. I am not really concerend about looking like saskwatch after using the treatment  as I can always waz it off. Its getting the hair thats the problem
I am sorry to my sister who has been using it for 6 months to no avail. I thought it would have worked by that length of time but keep your head up I know how frustrating it can be. My hair fell out 3 1/2 years ago for no reason and I am 20 now. I am trying to come to terms with at and I will never give up hope.
I was also looking into getting steroid injections at my temples where there is hairloss. Can anyone attest to this working? I am on my own here as I do not know anyone who has hairloss so I am always researching.
A month ago I went to a Trichologist who specialises in afro hair (the only one in England) but this lady was WHITE :shocker:  and she did not tests other than look at my hair, tell me to get a texturiser to make my hair more manageable and sell me her home made exclusive alopecia treatments so I put that on the back burner for a while.
If there is anyone, I mean anyone out there who knows of a solution that has worked for you or anyone you know please tell me. I will try anything to get my hair back.

This is EXACTLY what the alopecia specialist I saw 5+ years ago told me.

I didn't try it.

Before, I was applying it at the crown and about 2" from the crown in all directions. So somedays it might be more at the crown, other days more toward the back. Now, I'm applying only at the crown, about an inch around.

Hey ekwutoshi

Do you have details/links of who this lady is? I wouldn't really trust someone that is telling you to put chemicals in your hair to make it 'more manageable'. It defeats the purpose if you ask me.

Thanks

Yes her name is Renee Lagrange
She has a clinic on Harley Street, England. I thought that this could be my saving grace as harley street is known for their high quality healthcare.

Her website is

http://www.afro-hair.co.uk

I did not take her advice and have not been back since. She also said her "exclusive" treatments take one year to even see results! I am a patient girl but thatis ridiculous. Her personal life of hair restoration haircare costs £110 a month! I cannot afford that and I am in univerity too.
PEOPLE DO NOT GO TO THIS WOMAN. DO NOT BUY HER STUFF EITHER. AND ON TOP OF IT ALL THIS AFRO HAIR SPECIALIST IS WHITE

Thank goodness for that. I did a google search and she was the only one that came up. Thats the problem, we have such limited resources here for black people. Women like her can take advantage  I'm a student as well, and I refuse to go to those crooks, its like daylight robbery.

Have you tried a dermatologist? You should be able to get a referral from you local GP. That way at least you'll get a honest response about your condition.

I am seeing a dermatologist and trichologist privately. Last year I was referrred to one by my GP and I was on the waiting list 5 months. When I saw the women she just looked at my hair and said that it would grow back. Mind you my hair has been gone since 2002. No blood test, no hair test, nothing. I am spending my last dime to get my hair back. I am only 20 years old and I will enjoy my hair or die trying

Yeah, there is that too. I had a similar problem when I first experienced hair loss at a young age. I must have been about 9/10 when I first went to the doctor about it. He just took one look....and didn't even refer me. After that incident I didn't even bother...and that was 20 years ago. My new doctor did a referral right away. I'm just hoping the dermatologist won't fob me off... <_< My appointment is next month, I'll let you know how it goes.

I saw two dermatologists one of whom did a blood test and scalp sample to see if I had any disease processes. They ruled out telifum (or something like that) and determined that it was due to heredity.

This product truly aided my hair in growing after I experienced a traumatic experience of frequent perms and harsh braiding techniques. Besides Aphogee products and DooGro, this medication saved my hair. Literally, my hair refused to grow, and on top of that the remaining hair was brittle, damaged, and thin. However, I did experience hair growth in other areas. When I did discontinue the product, my hair continued to grow thick and healthy, and I experienced no episodes of hair loss.

I have been using rogaine for about 3 years. I have been natural for 2. I have noticed remarkable growth since I have been using it in combination with biotin, and gnc hair vitamins. Before that I was getting some growth. But in the last year I have got alot of growth. I have been abble to cornroll my thin spot. I know that you have to use it for the rest of your life but that is the price that I am willing to pay. It doesn't give me issues with hair growth anywhere else on my body.

Hair loss is so maddening and hard for me to grasp because I feel like I take excellent care of my hair and body and my hair is still disappearing. It's not falling out, it just disappears. I have been using Minoxidil for about 8 months now and I have seen some improvement. I have little baby hairs at my hairline where there used to be none. The problem is that my hair continues to disappear in other places. I just had a biopsy at the dermatologist on Tuesday and I'll get the results of it next week. In conjunction with the Minoxidil I take biotin vitamins and a multi-vitamin. I know Minoxidil is something that I will have to use for the rest of my life, but I compare it to the people who have acne and use ProActiv.

If it works who cares how long use have to use, the point is it works! Good luck to everyone who is searching for answers and treatment...

I have been to Renee Legrange and was not too impressed with her advice. Her produucts worked for a while and then stopped (2 years) . Then I saw a post by Pennsprinz(please check spelling), where she went to the Belgravia centre UK (based in Victoria London). The treatment has made her hair grow. I have been to Belgravia Centre and my hair is catching back. As part of the treatment minoxidil is given to you. They specialise in afro hair as well - a bit expensive. Check out the website. :) You can PM me more info if you want.

Sorry to be the pessimistic one, but I have learnt, after many years of hard experience, that if your scalp is bald there is nothing on this earth, except hair transplants, that will make your hair grow. I am not referring to those who have thin edges because of too tight weaves. There are lots of charlatans out there, ready to make a quick buck off of desperate people, like those who promote tablets that make you lose weight. Look how many young and middle aged bald men are out there? Now honestly sisters, if there was a cure for baldness do you think these guys would remain bald? I do not think so. I have learnt to accept my fate as I am not rich enough to have hair transplants. To those who are willing to keep looking for a miracle, good luck to them. As for me, I always apologize to Dee when I have to mention this word - so I am sorry Dee, I use w**s to work, hats or wraps on weekends and my natural hair at home which is in a TWWA. There is no other way out. :(

It depends on how long your scalp was bald. Minoxidil - once you stop using it your hair would fall back out. I always wondered though about initially using it to see if follicles were still there and then stopping and using natural follicle stimulators such as peppermint etc.

Be careful with lace front wigs, the glue they make you use can cause skin discoloration along your forehead.

My back up to minoxidil:
Giovanni Tea Tree Shampoo - has peppermint in it and other follicle stimulating oils. (Purchase on Vitacost or more expensively at Wholefoods).
Shea Butter Mix (my hair doesn't like straight oils): Coconut oil, essential oils (peppermint, rosemary, cedar wood, tea tree oil)
Biotin 2500mg (GNC brand)
Water

Good luck!!

My doctor prescribed me Rogaine for women, Clobetasol, and 3000 mcg of biotin, I take 5000 mcg daily.
I started Janurary 20th, and I started noticing growth about 6 wks later, but only in my thinning areas, I also have a large bald spot in the middle of my head, there was no improvement there.. I also started to grow a beard, so my doctor told me to stop taking it, and continute with the clobetasol and the biotin. He said the beard should go away in 60-90 days.

That one product called ReGro has this chemical in it. I didn't realize that the hair will STOP growing if you stop using it. I guess my mom wasted her money.

I couldnt find an independent review for Renee Lagrange either which made me hesitate. So glad I did

I am going to google Belgravia Centre and see what results I come up with

I tried Rogaine 2% and Olux foam together, I grew hair everywhere, and not only did I grow hair, my face darkened like a 5 o"clock shadow. I used it for a month, my sides thickened up, but I have an area in the middle of my hair that didn't budge. The dr said together they help. But now I continue to use the Olux foam, and some herbal oils I mixed together. Plus I drink Nettle tea and also put it in my hair. I also try to wash my hair 2-3 times a week, sometimes 4. I rinse with ACV, and then put the nettle tea in. My hair is thickening up everywhere, but the spot still isn't budging. My dr also put me on Aldactone 50mg, but I developed an allergic reaction to it.
