So how about a new grow-out challenge? This challenge is a spinoff TWA Grow-out challenges. The same rule applies (no major cuts), except this one is open to everyone. You don't have to be a newbie this time. You can start whenever you like. Challenge ends on August 1st. Good luck everyone!

Count me in too... I have had my hair in twist extensions a few time in the past 6 months and my hair is like 6 - 7 inches now....long enough to put my own extensions in! I hope it will be nice and long before december when I go and visit my inlaws in St lucia. For right now I am sticking to my twist extensions so i don't cut it.

I'm in! August 16 will make 1 year for me!!! Time flew by so fast...

So far, my regimine is:

Take my multi-vitamin and biotin supplement daily
Get back on track with drinking my 64 oz of water daily (I fell off hard)
Start my daily conditioner washes again since the weather is warming up
Limit the products I put in my hair or go with none and ALWAYS apply a leave-in
Clarify with baking soda and conditioner every 3 days or so to get rid of build up from hardwater

What I plan to implement:
A SHOWER FILTER
Distilled water to add to my hair spritz
Find a protective style that I can maintain to keep my hands out of my hair
Working out on a regular basis

I was planning on going to a natural hair salon to get a trim, but I guess I can hold out until August. Good luck everyone!

This will be my first challenge. Any advice or tips from veterans will be greatly appreciated!

a grow out challenge is simply where you do not do any cutting of your hair.. no trims... you continiue with your reg. hair maintainance... using whatever products you want...

Ladies.. i am doing well, i am also participating in the current protective style challenge so these two combined.. should equal ALOT of growth. we'll see...

just redid my box braids on sunday so i will keep these in all week.. after that i will probably be doing twists..

still going strong.. wish you luck ladies

My hair is about 8 inches right now, so I think I'll stick with the protective styles until my nappversary in September. I vow I will do some different protective styles (other than twists) so I don't get bored. I'm also going to up my water intake and exercise (well, start exercising that is  ). I want in on this challenge, please.

This is my first time posting since joining in March. I've learned so much from this board. Thank you all for your willingness to share and the good information.

I've been natural for about 10 years, 8 of which was in locs that grew to the middle of my back. Since July 2004 I've been wearing an afro of some type :(

I'm ready to put some of the good information I've gotten from this board to use.

I'm looking forward to seeing & hearing the outcome of others and to see how long my hair will grow too.

Thanks

I've been onboard since the beginning and I'm motivated to hang in until the end. I'm also in the PSC; I just twisted my hair last night, and I'm not planning to touch my hair for a minimum of 2 weeks, longer if they last. I'm exercising daily, eating right, taking vitamins and chugging down the water. My aim is for an overall healthy lifestyle and I'm hoping a good consequence of that will be ongoing healthy hair.
I'm planning to trim my ends on August 15th :D

wow - i was at a show today sitting down on a comfy chair while a band i wasnt particularly interested in was playing

anyways - i start messing with my hair

that i wasnt able to grab onto just 2 or 3 days ago

hooray for growth.
keep it coming.

[/b]

Yeah, it's completely normal. It happens to me, too. So don't worry about it.

That's great runrunrunner. It looks like you're doing a great job.

Wow, BudhaBelly, you're doing great with the water. You have a great plan going.

I swear when I pulled my sides last time they were at the base of my neck. Now it looks like it's to my collarbone. My back is steadily on its way to armpit. I need to start taking pictures of this stuff, so I don't have to guess. My front has a long way to go. I thought my hair was resting, I guess it's not.

OT: My flat twists are looking better. I'm almost ready to say that they look good. Practicing really helps. Between hair growth, product experimenting and style experimenting being natural is really fun right now.

Count me in. I was in the last challenge but my hair didn't seem to grow to me.
I don't know if I just could not see the grow because of "shrinkage" or if the
barber didn't understand what "shape up" means. This time I'm only going to the
barber for a edge up.

It's not a major cut to me, so I think it's fine if you do it. Go for it.

Ms. NaNa, like they say "the only true failure is not trying" err somethin like that. So don't be discouraged. Good luck.

I'm hanging in...I've drinking a good bit of water, exercising, and eating right daily. I mostly eat fruits and veggies, and I eat a lot less meat. The best part is that I feel so much better on the inside even if it doesn't affect my hair growth a lot. I can see my hair getting longer from week to week. I can't wait until to see how big my puff will be in August! Are any people noticing that some hair is growing faster in some places than others?

OK, I'm in too!! :P As long as I don't have to stick to a certain style, I'm good, because I can't stand to have one style too long and I have to wash my hair every other day.

(I guess that's why I'm going crazy about my puff)

That's okay. When I'm trying to change a habit (like poor eating), I have setbacks. That's a part of the process. You don't have to give up unless you want to.

don't know if its too late but i'm in as well.
i don't want to become obssesive so i'm keeping it simple: protective styles, moisturising, continue to work out and eat healthy.

I'm doing okay. I've been drinking plenty of water, taking my vitamins, oiling and scalp massaging. I did miss one day of exercising (Tuesday). My hair is still in twists, so I guess I'm doing a little protective styling. It's the eating right that is SO hard, but I'll keep trying.

Good luck, mecca. Thanks for joining, fever and cece.

Right now I have 3.5 inches in the front, 5 on top and 4.5 in the back. I think am doing pretty good for almost 10 months. I currently have my hair in twist on week 3 and I am so ready to take them out. Luckily , my ends feel great, thanks to shea butter.
My plan is to start drinking water, exercise more, and take multivitamins next week. Hopefully, I will be able to stick to my regimens. Do condition washes and deep condition when my hair is loose and put spritz when in protective styles. I am hoping after this challenge I will be able to have a BAA or at least do a pony puff.

my hair seems to be growing well.
i was messing with the back of it last night and was pleasantly surprised.

my diet for the past week has been a plethora of raw fruits and veggies.
gotta go shopping again and get some more food.

i'm not sure if it's helping my hair [it seems too soon to see results from that] - but who knows.

sporadically taking nioxin vitamins...need to be more consistent with that.

i want to try and find a regular vegan-safe multi-vitamin
and perhaps add some flaxseed oil??

i need to exercise
and drink more water than i do.
even though water is all i drink.

i could also probably stand to stop scratching so much.
i'm sure that's doing some kind of damage.

Announcement:

While browsing the past growout challenges, I got an idea. I thought it would be great to put all our pics in one place. So I created a Fotki album to put all our progress pics. You don't have to use it, but if you want to, then you're more than welcome. I haven't uploaded any pics, but I put in my last 10 or so journal entries. Since I don't think a lot of you are going to see this anyways, lol, I'm gonna go ahead and PM you all.

I've been eating healthy food and working out (leftover tummy pudge - i'm a stick with a belly, lol) I've put away my hot tools and blowdrier and have been no-pooing and letting my hair air dry regardless of how many people think i need to tame it. this is making me quite happy because instead of smelling burnt hair when the wind blows, i smell fruity vo5. this weekend i'll be going to a stylist for the first time - WISH ME LUCK - but i heard he was very good and patient with natural hair. i'm getting a trim-up and a wash n set. so i think i'm off to a good start! errbody good luck n happy growing :)

I recently went to the Afro hair and beauty show and I had a hair check-up at the Organic root stimulator stand (They used a microscopic camera on my scalp and tips). The woman said that my hair was very healthy ^_^ BUT she said that I had split ends (Noooooooooooooooooo! ) And what makes it worse is that I 4got to trim my hair with hair scissors b4 I went back to Uni :doh.
