I guess I am in again. For the month of April I wore unmanipulated braidouts weekly. On Saturday I put in some braids for a braidout again but this time I decided to part the hair properly just in case I needed to hit the road. Turns out they are rather cute so I decided to keep them in until such time......

im here! the month of April was a resounding success fo me...i kept my 2 strands in for 3 whole weeks, then wore a twistout for the last week - so that was one whole month of near-ZERO manipulation! And the growth I noticed this last month was astounding! I am so proud of myself! Thanks ladies for the help and encouragement. I put in a set of twists on Sunday, hoping to get 2-3 weeks out of them!

Hey! Prom was cool. It wasn't all it's cracked up to be. That kind of thing just isn't my style but I had fun. I don't have any pictures because I didn't think it was worth photographing but of course my mom has a picture of me and my boyfriend before we left the house but she doesn't have a digital camera so we have to wait until she gets the pictures developed. Sorry.

I'm in. How long? What are the rules this time? Same as before?
[/b]

The rules are always the same. Keep a protective(braids, twists, bantu knots) style in for as long as you can. You can wash the style in or take it out wash, and put another PS back in. The goal is to last the entire month with protective styles. Good luck all!

I'm in.. currently have in small box braids since April 19.

Now that I think about it..i've been protective styling with 2-3 days of 'out' styles in between since January. No wonder I've been fiendin for fierce chunky twist-out/braid-outs now that it's warmer. PSCs have been great for the health and growth of my hair..plus i've been so busy, but I might have to take a break from PSCs after I take these braids out..probably around May 19. Tho I might not make it till then...I need big hair or larger twists to go with some of my spring outfits lol - i've been known to take down box braids too soon before..hopefully i'll make it

Hey ladies! I had a dream that my step-mom was doing my hair and she just started cutting. She cut my hair from waist length to bra strap length. It was crazy. I woke up and thought. OOH, today is May 2nd. Yesterday was 11 months since I've started transitioning and in 1 month I will be doing a semi-big chop. I think I will cut it to bra strap length and then cut it all off in a year.

I think it will be easier to deal with a child, go to school, and work if I had short hair. I can't wait until I can just get up, wash, and go. :)

*~Hey Ladies~*

I'm not really on the "challenge" per se, but I have decided to give protective styles another try this month. I did something different with my favorite protective style which is the two-strand twists. I always do them on stretched out dry hair that's greased up. Well today, I washed and conditioned my hair and did two-strand twists on wet hair with no product. My hair feels and looks great! I may continue to do my twists on wet hair! After I got done, I shook my head and my twists were swinging in the air. Hee-hee!

Here's a couple of pics:

I feel like these are one of the best sets of twists I've done as far as neatness goes. I like how the top, back, and sides look... I just don't like how they look in the front... the top is longer than the sides. I'll just patiently wait for my hair to grow out more. ;)

[/b]

I'm in. I usually keep twists in for a week (my hair is too thin and fine to keep them in longer). However, when I'm good, I take them out, condition overnight and put the twists right back in. However, what I've been doing lately is taking the twists out and then wearing a twist-out or fro for two or three days. I'm noticing a growth spurt with my hair (or maybe just from taking better care of it, it's just not breaking off so easily). So I should go back to wearing twists almost all the time. My hair breaks so easily that a protective style is best. I'm in for this month.

*~Hello again ladies~*

The twists I did on May 2 were taken down the next day!

I just wasn't feelin' how they looked in the front, especially since my hair is still relatively short and it's uneven in length. So from May 3 - 7 I wore my shrunken wash-n-go fro, and yesterday morning I sported a twistout puff.

Well last night, I decided to put my hair back in twists. I styled it differently. Instead of having some of the twists in my face, I have them all twisted back away from my face. I like this look much better. I may sport these twists for a week or more just so I can leave my hair alone.

I really should do this. I've never heard of doing this before, but I really want to now. Maybe I'll do it for the next 3 weeks. I just need to find a style. I'm thinking I'll go for either flat twists or strand twists. The problem is I'm really bad with hair styling and I usually just wear it freestyle because I don't have the skill or patience to do much else. But this time I'm gonna do it! This is just such a great reason!

I'm still in. 11days ago I took my time and did tiny twists which came out really well. I've gotten several compliments on them. Last night I gently Co washed them and touched up the twists on the crown and around the hairline and tnen put a little gel on each twist. I tied them up and this morning they all look like new. with this routine of daily moisturizing and weekly co washes with gel touch up's I'll be able to keep each set in 2 to 3 weeks! :D there's no telling when I'll stop this; tiny twists are definitely the way to right now for me

Hey iscott555,

Will your mom do my hair? I'm in Sacramento!

I tried to do my style, I did twists and braids in the shower and it's taken me 3 days and I'm still not done, not to mention the fact that it looks terrible. This is why I always wear my hair free, because I can't style my hair. Can anyone think of an easier style? I want to do this, but I might have to get someone else to do it because I am just not very skilled. Unfortunately I can't afford to pay anyone, and my hands are really irritated right now, so nothing too hard on the hands please.

Ladies, I am getting that BC feeling. I am dying to do it. I wanted to completely BC in 2007 and June of this year do a semi big chop but I am thinking that maybe I should cut now and learn to deal with my natural hair so I can just wash and go by the time the baby gets here. What do you ladies think?

hey Chelci - I say go for it!!! :) Sounds like you want to.

Debonaire
05-15-2006, 06:16 PM
Chelci I honestly would go ahead and cut if I were you. Usually I wouldn't say that but 1 year in is a fairly long transition and from the looks of some of those pics you are going to have some beautiful and crazy thick hair that you might want to learn to maintain before the baby comes. Also at one year the hair is long enough to easily get cornrows, twists, box braids, or just a nice puff without a hassle. But whatever your decision there are a fleet of ladies here to help :).

Now on to my update hehe. I took out the twists that were in the back of my head. It's so weird but they ALL were unraveling which hasn't heppened to me before. I mean no matter the amount of gel or how hard I was twisting those buggers wouldn't stay in. So now the front is still flat twisted and the back is out. Two weeks down and two more to go!

After a year long transition your hair should be super long Chelci! You just might BC into a BAA! :P I can't wait to see pics! :)

I took my twists out, washed my hair, and put it in two little girl puffs while I contemplate the next protective style.

Got cornrows the last week of April, so I am trying to make it to the last week of May. They might be coming out next week :(

Random thoughts: I took out 3 twist and tired already. I think I'm going to a shop and have them take these things out. I can't do, I just can't do it.

Hi folks! I see you all are still going strong.

I was unofficially in last month, but I'll make it official this month. Since last month I've been wearing my hair in very large twist and covering it with headwraps. I've only worn it out around 4 times and that's it. I plan to get it cornrowed tommorow. I'll try to share pics if I get it done.

i'm trying to keep my twists in for 3 weeks in stead of one :)

Hi all, I put pics of my protective style in my album. I'll be living in here, because I can't seem to keep my hands out of my head. I'm going to need help!

So I finally finished it, but my hair was so dandruffy(and I never get dandruff after going natural) because it took me a ton of conditioner and almost a week of wetting it everyday to do it. Now I know not to wet it. I did flat twists that turned into braids, which looked horrible because I did it in a rush, and it gave me a headache, so I took out the cornrowed part and I'm wearing just the flat twists and loose ends until tomorrow, when I'll have time to two strand twist the rest of it up(I think that's what I'm gonna do), and try to part it better, and wash the dandruff out of it(which is why I wanted it loose so my scalp wouldn't show) and then tomorrow I'm calling my mom to give me money to get my hair styled professionally. Since I've been natural I haven't done anything to my hair, so even though I only lasted one day with a protective style, I'm proud of myself and I'm gonna keep trying.

this is my newly created album

Your hair is GOR...GEOUS!

that's long enough for a challenge. I had my twists for 3 weeks, never had them in for that long. I also ended my april/may challenge last weekend :)
My twists looked too messy.

Naw I'm out for a while, not sure what I plan to do next. My last protective style cost me about 1.5 inches of hair to clip. :(

I can't wait to see you big chop. :P
