AALIYAH! OOOOO, i miss her! If she was still alive, all these no-talent, fluff artists(coughcough[SIZE=1]amerie, ashanti, nivea[SIZE=1] cough cough), wouldn't have blew up like they did.

TUPAC! OOOOOO, i miss him. If he were still alive, rap wouldn't have taken the cesspool route it took. Too bad rap is dead now, and hip hop is on its last pair of air force one's.

PHYLLIS HYMEN! sorry, had to take it back, but she just had the most beautiful voice, i would love to hear her sing now. With all the neo-soul out, she would fit right in.

r.i.p all yall talented peopl

Funny, I've been thinking about Roger and listening to his music a lot recently. He's a hometown boy and I guess I took him for granted--I didn't realize just how original he is.

Man, I'm reminiscing....

Aaliyah was great, man. Too many bubblegum singers out there now. I wish she was here....

Biggie - no words to describe his skills. I used to listen to him DAILY in high school. The day of his funeral, I was gonna cut class to see the procession b/c my school was right down the block from it and a few blocks away from the house he grew up in....

Tupac - what a shame. No one can do what he did, and Ja Rule needs to stop trying. :smug

Mercury (Force MDs) - he's from my hometown. That was sad too.

Some of y'all mentioned the ones I thought of too - Left Eye, Marvin Gaye, Freaky Tah, Barry White, etc.

IMHO, I don't think music will be the same.

Billie Holiday could still be alive today...she was so young when she passed..these song lyrics are my inspiration...

"God Bless the Child
Billie Holiday
Them that's got shall get
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Money, you've got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When you're gone, spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own
He just worry 'bout nothin'
Cause he's got his own "

marvin gaye...we used his song, "what's goin' on" for our graduating video and everytime i think about how moved we were i get all teary eyed (i've been outta hs for 15 yrs now) :rolleyes

:offtopic the video played the entire song, as we watched clips of our sr. class through the years--skip parties, picnics, sr. day, functions, car washes, around campus, award ceremonies, football team going all the way and winning state, etc. (yes, i graduated from a 99.999% black hs in florida) :razz before venturing off to a hbcu. :thumbsup

To all of those that like Minnie you can check her daughter out on Sat Nite Live (if you can stand to watch the show)

Maya Rudolf is her daughter and she looks so much like her mother
Her father who is white is Richard Rudolph, if you ever look at the author of songs, you will see that he wrote some songs for her and some for Teena Marie (Dick Rudolph)
When Maya was a little girl she did some work on one of Teena's albums in the 80's (childrens voices)

Just a bit of trivia for Minnie fans
