Okay, so it's summer, and I want to look hot when I go out, but theres nowhere to shop here (Canada), we don't have Lane Bryant or Torrid, but we do have Addition-Elle, but its mad expensive (like 50$ a shirt). So where can I do you shop for relatively cheap, I go to Old Navy, but sometime their clothes are just blah (ie, dress bust too small, waist too big, too much booty in the jeans etc).

Please Help! (and I would shop online but I have no credit card...)

Well, I do like shopping online. (Downfall is can't go out with friends at the mall.) As much as I am content with Torrid and Lane Bryant, I always seem to revert back to online shopping. So maybe you can try a couple of these places???

Daddy-Os (http://www.daddyos.com/)

Mode Merr (http://www.modemerr.com/WomensClothing.html)
I, dunno if you are into this style but, I see that rockabilly designs are coming back into style (everywhere I go it's polka dots! :D) So you can try here. They do sell plus size clothing, but not in all the designs.

Alight (http://www.alight.com)

and you don't have to own a credit card to shop online. I don't have one, but I don't know Canada either. What I use is a prepaid credit card. Oh you can buy a gift card that has money on it from Visa or Mastercard. But that depends on the store that you are buying from too.

I went shopping with my sister and cousins this weekend and we went to MACY'S (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/index.ognc?CategoryID=27930&PageID=27930*1*96*-1*-1&kw=Juniors&LinkType=EverGreen) and she found as much stuff as I did. When I shop Macy's or even Nordstrom I go to the clearance rack 1st or I only shop there EARLY when they have a sale.

You can get top shelf for prices comparable to those at OLD NAVY or even TARGET.

DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF.

It took me more than a minute to get my sister to... shop at better stores, try clothes on, and get them altered to get the best fit.

I also think that big girls should focus on quality, spending a bit more on the clothes and keeping things current with accessories.

I know its frustrating not to have a Charlotte Russe, H&M, Forever21 carry plus sizes... truth is though for the quality and their price point I wouldn't shop there. My daughter is a size 4 and we work it out other ways because I think there stuff looks cheap and is poorly made, and on anything less than skinny, well lets just say even if they made it in your size I wouldn't advise shopping there.

Just don't be penny wise and pound foolish ~W

I agree, I am trying to get out of that "well the price is right, stop being so cheap" mode. I saw some beautiful dresses at Macy's I wonder do they carry my size? I am kinda tried of shopping at OldNavy because their clothes sometimes are kinda boring. Old Navy is the store where I resort to when I can't find anything else from anywhere else. They are ok sometimes. Anyhoo, I agree quality does matter a bunch.

oh yeah, fatty girl- you should just cop a debit/credit card through your bank- it deducts the funds that you currently have

i just dont want u to purchase a credit card (unless for emergencies i.e.- car towing) because with the interest and other funky charges- it makes you think twice of using it towards clothes. just some words of wisdom

Thank you ladies, you guys are awesome!(back teeth showing)
It's so hard finding stylish clothes in plus size. I didn't know where to find nice stuff, you don't know how happy i am.

I've shopped at:

Lane Bryant
Avenue
Ashley Stewart every so often, quality of their clothes are not as good.
Marshalls
Macy's

And all of them I pretty much shop exclusively in the clearance sections, which means I'm checking them out pretty frequently. Also try to shop off season to get better deals.

I'm in Canada too... Walmart has some decent plus sized clothes. And how about Reitmans? They are pretty inexpensive. Ricki's goes up to size 18 so sometimes it's hit or miss. I really suggest getting a credit card and checking out Torrid, their clothes are too cute...

If anyone lives in the vicnity of a Nordstroms Rack(their clearance outlets) check them out. That's my main store, and you can find stuff that's been marked down even 2 or 3 times. The last stuff I bought there was a really nice skirt and top-the skirt was orginally 158 got it for 40 and the top was originally 100 got it for 30- and I consider $39 to be on the high side for what I usually find. You can often find a basic silk shell top for around $12-no more than $19.

i guess it depends on your age range :dunno:

^Yeah, I suppose it does depend on what you need. I've been to torrid once or twice, and got a couple of things there, accessories as I recall, but I didn't feel the quality was quite as high as Nordstroms and plus I can't wear stuff like a corset top and jeans miniskirt to work at an elementary school :dunno:

Actually being 2x, it's hard to find stuff that perfectly suits my style,I usually have to be content with basics and pick up more "fashion forward" pieces whenever I can come across them. But I've found some nice stuff there, but it's a place you have to check back with periodically.

Although re-reading what the op wants- to look hot for summer she would probably do better at Torrid or similar, I think. I agree that online is her best bet. Locally, there is a store called Island Plus and I remember a store in Pasadena that was younger plus size stuff-but quality was less than what you'd get at Torrid. Some of these super cheap plus size shops have stuff that isn't sewn properly and doesn't fit well and the fabric is lousy. Also Island plus stuff is sized "jr" plus and a 2x there won't fit me. I have to go up to 3 or 4x,but they have very little and it's quite plain.

every once in a while I can score a deal at a thrift store. Just recently I was in a store that specialized in reselling catalog returned items. There were designer jeans reduced to $20.00, Coach shoes reduced to $39, I bought a pair of designer sunglasses for $13.
