For those who make their own hair spritzes or leave in conditioners, do you use any preservatives? If you do what do you use and how much? Basically, I've been doing my own spritzes. But now I'm starting to make them for friends and family and I'm looking for some preservative that's not very harmful that will keep the spritzes for up to 6 months without having to refridgerate or use it up in a week or 2. Any input is welcome.

what ingredients make your products need preservatives or refridgeration? do you always have to refridgerate a mix, or is it only after a certain period of time?

^^ Grapefruit seed extract. You can purchase it in the UK from Akamuti here (http://www.akamuti.co.uk/products/new/organic-grapefruit-seed-extract/)

Aromantic (http://www.aromantic.co.uk) also sells some preservatives as well. I guess you could give them a call or, send them an email for more information.

Water! As far as I know if you add water to any mix, you run the risk of mould or bacteria forming. My mixes contain eos, oils, veg glycerin, and water. So far, no mould issues and I never refridgerate a mix except when I add aloe vera. But I only keep my usual spritzes a couple of weeks (at the most), they're all used up by then.

^^ Oh good, thanks! I don't have water in my leave-in, so hopefully I won't have to worry.
