I did it, I'm glad I did it, and I wish I had done it sooner.

I chopped off about 12 inches last night... and found a sympathetic (female) barber to shape it nicely today. I gleefully took to the trash TWO bags of long-hair-because-everyone-said-it-looked-nice-but-OMG-the-misery-of-it stuff.

My head feels so good, it must be sinful!

My (6-yr-old) daughter loves the new look. Some acquaintences like the new look. Some are still in shock. My family doesn't know yet (he he he).

Thanks to everyone on Nappturality that had written an article, forum post, put up pictures, and dared to do it. I had crawled all over the site in the past week, and read everything. Thank you for the encouragement.

I'm going to sleep SO good tonight, because for the first time, in a long time, my scalp isn't itching like hell!

It is now Thursday... I have been to some customer sites since then. (I'm an on-call service engineer) And the best thing that has happened... This REALLY CUTE brother has started hitting on me! "I like what you did to your hair, it really brings out the black in you." (I'm Black & Puerto Rican)

Excuse me while I squeal in delight... :razz

The worst thing... well.. I still haven't sent pictures to my family. I've had a few acquaintances go into shock. One guy thought I was going to grow dreads and started giving me his opinion. So I asked him, how do you grow dreads. His reply, "Don't wash your hair and don't comb it. Let it get greasy, then it will lock up."

Yes, I did correct him, nicely even.

Thanks again to EVERYBODY! I had read everything on this board, most of the posts, all of the articles, and followed umpteen links to other REAL-HAIR sites.

And it can all be summarized to this: God don't make ugly. Ugly comes from being something you are not. (Not to mention pain, and anguish, and low monetary balances from expensive hair appointments, and 10 hour salon sessions, and becoming hydro-phobic, and not being able to hang out with friends because the hair ain't working...etc) Accept yourself, and the hell with the status quo!
