So I would really like to invest in some good quality undergarments, slips and something to suck in this stomach lol. I have one corset from Frederick's of Hollywood (which I LOVE) but still. I also have one of those pantyhose girdle things that you wear under dresses or skirts that flatten a less than svelte tummy and smooth over the thighs and derriere.

BUT I REALLY NEED SLIPS. These NY winters are cold (something tells me it will be harsher this year) but I still want to be cute.

Please share! :D

Funny you started this.... I just bought some garters and stockings from Fredricks and a few other pieces. They had some nice control undergarments in the new Fredricks catalog -- which has a ton of stuff you won't find in the store.

Also Target seems to have a nice selection of control style undergarments.

HTH :)

CM

ETA: I think you will like the catalog better though because they have slips that help support as well as the traditional slips that just make it to where people can't see yo bizness lol :P.

Wal-Mart or any other major dept. store. Back in the day, slips came in one length; the satan section stopped just above the knee and the rest were layer/rows of ribbon that could be cut to suit the wearer's desired length. I think they still sale these at major department stores.

me too. I never really shopped there, but decided I never would when the salesperson tried to talk me into a bra that was obviously too big because they didn't carry my size.

I've been in love with slips since I use to wear my mother's half slips around the house as a dress.

Herroom has some nice things: http://www.herroom.com/slips.aspx but some of them are on the expensive side.

If you're not easily skeeved you also might want to try vintage shops. They often have gorgeous full slips, and hot water can make just about anything wearable.

Hey EmpressRi!

Have you ever heard of "The Town(e?) Shop". I have a girlfriend from NY/Manhattan and she was telling me it's the place to find hard-to-find undergarments. She got her 1950s bullet bra there. It's a "revival" piece though. Vintage would be the real thing or a replica. Revival means it has the latest underwire!

Oooo, can I jump on the "I hate Vic. Sec." bandwagon too? I strongly dislike Victoria's Secret. I like corsets, though have never bought one, I don't have much to suck in though (string-bean body here). Can somebody post a pic of a "sexy slip" cause I only remember wearing slips when I was little whenever I had to dress up and found them annoying, and not cute in the least.
Pics, anybody?

Great thread.

Some things on that "FairlyGothMother" site are truly lovely.
I've always loved corsets and wanted one (especially one for outerwear). Maybe one day. I have a cheap one but it's nothing special.

Why do I love this:

My mother wear slips and girdles daily. You'll never catch her without either. She's always stylin' from head to toe. Love her.

When I was in high school I used to contemplate corsetting to be able to wear corsets like that. It's really not difficult to achieve (I used to read up on it a lot). But it takes some dedication. I changed my mind and am now going for the more athletic look one gets from weight training, but it's still a fierce look.

If you're interested...

Ebay has a wonderfull Leather Corset selection. I purchased one for an event I had a few years ago... took me 4 years to wear that thang out. (And I did... :) )

The store is called ALTER EGO EROTICS. Use them. You will not regret it... ;)

I LOVE corsets!! I haven't bought one yet- because I'm looking for a quality seamstress or corset-maker but they are definitely on my list for gifts to myself.

I know everyone's talking about sexy underwear (corsets, etc . . . ). I can start my own thread, I guess but maybe I can get an answer here without hijacking too much. OP, hope you don't mind.

I'm 4 mos postpartum and I still look about 4 or 5 months pregnant. None of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit and I"m kind of embarrassed at how I look. Anyway, I would like to purchase a good girdle, something that breathes, and looks seamless under clothes and provides excellent support (read holding it all in) so that I can at least look decent in my clothes. I'm already having a heck of a time finding supportive nursing bras so my breast look so saggy and with the puffy belly . . . it just looks really sloppy. I'm going again to get fitted and see if I can get anything decent looking--maybe give up on the nursing bra idea. Anyway, thanks for any help.

I know this is old but the OP didn't mind hehe.

Spanx are the ish if you can drop the dollars on them.
