Thumbs up Dirty Scalp -- Does it REALLY help hair growth?

My mom says that dirt makes the hair grow. When I heard this, I thought that was silly. I still do, but I need other people's opinion on this. Is it a myth or a fact?

I also researched it and some people were saying it's the low manipulation that is making the hair grow ... not the dirt. Other people were saying it depends on the person & how long their scalp can stay dirty.

    What do you guys think?

    Um. Hell to the no.

You might retain more length if you're not fiddling with your hair everyday...but when has dirt ever been good for the health of any living thing other than a plant? Now I know that my hair feels more moisturized a couple days after shampooing than it does right after it's dried. I think that's because whatever conditioners I used have had a chance to settle (marinate ) onto my strands...I dunno, I've never really thought about it. All I can say with certainty is that dirt isn't going to do anything but clog up your scalp and make it harder for hair to reach the surface.

I think that the belief that dirt makes your hair grow is among one the biggest wives tale in the AA community. No, dirty hair does not make it grow. Being alive makes your hair grow. Taking care of your hair is what keeps it on your head.

If dirt made our hair grow long I know quite a few women who should be toe length by now....

Yah. I also figure coincidentally time is passing and that time may involve less manipulation.

No. You'll have a dirty, cruddy scalp and hair that is the same length it would have been had your scalp been kept clean.
You're not trying to grow cucumbers here, no dirt necessary.

I have heard the same thing but if u think about it how can dirt that clogs your pores and prevent growth assist in hair growth...
From learning about my hair and darn near close to earning BSN (BS in nappy hair) I think a clean scalp increases hair growth...
