: I had one braid that i wore in a ponytail w/my tst's at the doctor's office today. Ion' curr. Seriously, I would not be comfortable unless I wore them in an updo [which I've done] or in a ponytail like today.

    ETA:
CHB: I like the threaded look. If I chose to wear them, I would probably wear them under a beret or beanie.

I wear them sometimes. I think some people can pull it off, not me but people with longer and thicker hair probably can.

    O_O

They are just fat braids, I don't understand why it's a big deal. I've worn them at all lengths, right now I have big braids tied into a ponytail *shrug*

Thanks guys for voting! I wish I could change my vote. I'm going to have to say that for my head, Celie plaits are not the bidness....

They're not stylish... I mean, I'd wear them on a lazy day at home, to bed, or under a hat if a have to.... The 3rd option in the poll is very popular!

    I'd never wear them to a wedding, a graduation...e.t.c 0_0

Weighing in here. Ok, I looked at the pics in those links, and those aren't Celie braids. In The Color Purple, Celie wore large plaits.

Having said that, I think that with most styles, it's all about presentation. Whether hair is long or short, how the hair is parted and/or lays can make or break the style.

When it comes to braids, obviously to get the Celie look, you'd have to have some length to work with.

Quite frankly, I'd wear this out of the house without a hat to run errands but not as a finished, it's the "bomb" style. Here's my rendition of Celie plaits...

Distinctly remember this day because I'd taken my hair down from some style and to keep it from retangling, I would just braid up large sections of hair as I went along. Probably did this on a Friday night. The next day, I was doing some yard work when this lady came by and yelled at me from up the street, "What choo gonna do with your hair? I was actually so out done that I ended up blogging about it. Click Here to read my post.

Now would I wear this to work? Nope, but yeah I have gone out in public with my hair looking all crazy like this, lol.

    I don't think it's a big deal...it's just not a style choice for some.
