Waist Length Challenge Part 2
I went to comment in the other thread and just realized it was locked.
@hivierhair I use to have the same problem when I did a wash n go bun. But ever since I made sure to leave my hair in sections while washing and then moisturizing and sealing each section first before undoing them, I no longer have excessive tangling.Old SN name Soontobenappy

Today was wash day, and it was kinda long .
First I used Pantene Cowash to cleanse my hair in the bathroom sink, and dried it with a t-shirt. Next I slathered on my banana+molasses DC (I put the bottle in hot water first to liquefy it a bit), and twisted/braided my hair in 4 sections. Threw on a grocery bag and my knit cap, and DC'd for about 25 min. I jumped in the shower, rinsing, then applying Aussie Moist to condition and detangle. I kept my hair in 4 bantu knotted sections to go back and smooth Pantene Deep Condish on top. Out of the shower, I worked one section at a time, applied oil mix (CO, sweet almond, & jojoba) then FSG+AVG mix. I think that twisting my hair up in a t-shirt might be causing breakage on one side of my hair, so instead I just squeezed and scrunched the water out of my hair with the t-shirt. Now I'm just waiting for it to dry.
Things I'll be changing:
1. DC's are moving to being biweekly instead of weekly
2. No more sink washing. I think this made me lose more hair than I should have
3. Twisting/braiding sections after applying DC are not helpful at all
4. Using Aussie Moist primarily as a rinse out condish and Pantene DC as leave in/styler. AM is much more moisturizing, but PDC is a way better styler.
I'm hoping that I'll get a 3 day wash n'go. Otherwise I'll be redoing my hair Friday.Big Chop: Nov. 14, 2007

Pics not in order
first pic, conditioner with henna still left over.
second pic, fatty twists outside to see if I got any color.
third pic, rinsed conditioner hair pulled back.
fourth pic, henna paste in hair twisted in fatty twists.
ETA: I cant see any color in that second pic outside but my hair does look dark n glossy.
______
To me, my hair looks darker with a glossy like sheen. My hair felt soft and it DID feel stronger. I used the same mix that I tested on my shed hair. I used hot water. I can see a brown-red hue in certain lighting but it's not as bright as it was on my shed hair. I will do this again and I am impressed. My scalp and ends appreciated this.Last edited by Olahh; 02-20-2013 at 10:41 PM.

Had a long detangling session on Sunday. I shoot myself in the foot so often with this hair. Detangling it is so time & energy consuming that I avoid it, but because I go longer, the detangling is much worse. I know, that's a big ol' DUH!!!! But I just have a hard time staying on a schedule with this hair. Every 2 weeks is my goal, but sometimes life gets in the way, and I may have to do a quick wash without thorough detangling to avoid dirty hair and a flare up on my scalp. Gotta get more consistent.
Because the detangling took so long, I left my hair in the 8 big twists I let it dry in, and just pulled them back in a bun for this week's style. I think that I will do bantu knots on Friday night for an out style on Saturday, then if my energy level stays up, I might go ahead and do small 2 strand twists that I'll leave in for a few weeks. No more than 4!!!
ETA: The only thing that may get in the way of a twisting session this weekend, is if it takes too long to wash out the cones that I inadvertently saturated my hair in while detangling on Sunday. So frustrated about that!Last edited by CCmomof5; 02-21-2013 at 01:23 AM.

So yea I went to wash my hair last night and it didnt happen. I did a hot oil treatment with Mustard Oil and EVOO and then it got late and I didnt feel like detangling it and washing it. I just ran some conditioner through it and bunned.. Sigh who wants to detangle my hair for me? Aint nobody got time for that LOL I was going to try and wear this bun all week but my scalp is not happy and its a lil itchy from the excess oil and conditioner I piled on last night. I'll try to do wash my hair after class tonight.
ETA Next month I will be doing a length check. I'm trying to stick to length checks every three months so I can see if my new regimen is working.Last edited by NowIamnappy; 02-26-2013 at 08:38 PM.

I can so understand, NIAN!!
The other night I had a dream that my hair was hip length . And in the dream my hair was so heavy that even shrunken, the sheer weight of it made it hang down to mid back length. It was an odd dream - maybe related to a conversation that I had with a friend of mine who is loc'd and has tried repeatedly to get me to lock my hair. She keeps telling me how long & healthy the locs would be, and while I know that my hair would probably reach long lengths quickly if I let it lock, I'd worry that because my hair is so dense and there would be no getting rid of shed hair, the locs might break off from the weight after a while.
The dream was so believable that I can still remember the heaviness of that hip-length hair! All I know is if it ever did start getting that heavy, I'd be cutting it with a quickness! I have to say, though, I'd much rather that dream, than the nightmare I usually have that someone accidentally relaxes my hair. THAT dream makes me wake up sweating!!!

@CCmomof5
You are really not too far from hip length. You may only have a year and change to go if your retention keeps up at this pace.*Thinking and day dreaming of the pictures*

Today was the end of my 3 month "challenge", and I took hair measurements. Does think take forever to do for anyone else? It's difficult trying to place the measuring tape exactly.
I gained about 1.25 in all over!!!
Nape: 13-13.25 in (15 is WL)
Front: 16-16.25 in (the right side actually gained 1.5")
Sides: 14-14.25 in
I was hoping to just gain an inch, so I'm really proud of my progress considering the little mishaps I've had . My next 3 month challenge starts tomorrow, and I'm starting it off with a month long PS challenge. Buns and single plaits only! I'm also implementing pre-wash finger-detangling (it seems much more gentle but it takes much longer), and washing 1-2x a week.Big Chop: Nov. 14, 2007
