Loc'ing Process
Hello everyone, I am BRAND NEW to this site. I joined for the purpose of gaining information about loc's and the general process by which they actually loc up. I am almost two months into my loc journey (started with comb twists) and I am currently loving it, BUT, I'm a bit concerned about something. I consistently wear my starters in braided updos in order to maintain a professional look. I am worried that my locing process with be hindered because I'm consistently wearing my hair in a way that is stretched out. Please My primary questions are:
1. Will my updo's hinder the process? and if so
2. Would wearing my hair down for b/w 1-2 weeks in crinkles give my hair adequate time to loc?
Oh and BTW I will be posting pics later from a better location

Hi SeiLuv and welcome to NP.
1. Can't really say for sure that your updo's will hinder the process. Folks have been known to bantu lock their hair (me) and leave it like that for weeks at a time with no issues (others).
2. Time is the only indicator of when your locs will loc. The longer you leave them the quicker they loc.
All in all if you just continue on with your journey, updos, braid and twist outs will not really do any harm (IMO). I did it all in the first few months of loc'ing and here I am 5 years later with barely an issue.
Just keep on keeping on and all should be well.http://www.nappturality.com/forum/pi...972292&thumb=1 http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/...58/184/7ba.gifRevelation 21:4 - Psalm 51 - Psalm 121 - Ephesians(All words typed above are my experience and/or opinion, please feel free to agree or disagree....just please, do so without malice.)Loc'ed: 19/NOV/08 - Love ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~NP Convert since 06/08

Given enough time, your hair will lock. Don't worry about the time that it takes. It will happen.

welcome!
^^I use tinypic.com myself but you might want something else
However, I wouldn't worry about the locing process with your updos. You're still a baby and your hair will loc eventually The only thing I WOULD worry about is really making sure your styles aren't too tight/pulling too much on your scalp. That's where I have seen the most concern with locs and I can't even begin to tell you how many women I've seen come into my stylist's shop needing help after being 'snatched' from their own semi-abusive styling/maintenance or by someone else. I'm not sure how you maintain your locs but make sure your scalp is adequately comfortable, don't 'force' a style on your babies, and you will have beautiful locs in no time!!!!Love, Peace, HairGrease, and Double Kisses

Regarding professionalism: I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing your hair down, if you choose to do so.
