HELLO from Wolverhampton (England)
Hello everyone,
I'm lorraine from wolverhampton.
I am pleased to have found this site gain as I knew of it years ago..... it has changed a great deal since yesteryears.
I have natural hair now since the end of 2008. I have locks which i get loced every 2- 3 months but now i am thinking of not getting it loced any more and just twist it myself.
It's shoulder length now and i am thinning in the middle and getting grey at the front mainly with grey / white strands all around my head but not that prominent.
I do want to use more natural products and not the mass produced ones you find in the hair shops. I have this romantic notion that handmade is going to have less chemicals in it. If there is anyone from england it would be great to hear from you too.
I will now have a looK around the site.....
Enjoy your day Lx

Welcome Lorraine! I too have locs and we have twin issues. Greying around the hairline. I just use a rinse for mine. If you color yours but want less chemicals I would reccomend Ms Clairol extra grey coverage.I sit under a heat cap and it takes very well. Wash with warm to hot water to open the cuticle and rinse with cold to loc that color in. Do not use conditioner at that time. Just use a leave-in afterwards. Ignor all that if you do not color.(lol) Also, I too am thinning in the middle. I do re-tights every three months but I skip that section and do it every other retight. That puts less stress on that area and the new growth helps to make the area appear fuller. When you do tighten that area don't go to the scalp jus very close to it.Try not to have very long locs in that area. A layered cut will allow you to keep that area shorter while it still blends in and looks natural. Too, make sure the base of your locs are strong enough in that area to withstand the weight of the locs. If not you may have to go ahead and keep them tightened at least closely enough to the scalp to give the added support they may need. If not they could break off from the weight. It's a balancing act for sure. When you do your re-tights or twist your scalp should never be sore afterwards. Unless someone is severely tender headed you should never experience pain after loc retights and retwist. I believe this is one of the main causes of our thinning and balding issues in Loc'dom. Peace and Blesings.
