"Big Chop" Without Taking Down Bound Protective Style?
Hello everyone,
I am going to cut my hair short, and I am just considering the different ways I could do so. My hair is currently in tiny cornrows made into an updo, and I would rather not take them all down just to cut it. My hair has grown enough to give some space between the braid and my scalp. I could just cut my hair without taking out the style. So... has anyone ever done this before?
My hesitation is that I am not doing this myself. Since I knew I was cutting my hair as I was getting these cornrows, I have been completely neglecting my hair and scalp. Who ever is cutting my hair will probably find it nasty.
I could do the hard part myself and just cut off the cornrows, wash my hair, and then let the barber just style it for me, but that seems like a lot of work.
What would you do in this scenario?

Because I'm not good at cutting hair, I would find a style that I want then go to the barber/stylist. I've cut my hair a lot.
Lots of times, I've gone to a shop after a disastrously uneven TWA and then had to work backwards to find a look that I wanted that from the results that I'd given myself.
Don't feel like your hair is just "too gross" to work with. Fear of what other people think will hold you back.

Re: "Big Chop" Without Taking Down Bound Protective Style?
I may have tried this with box braids but would have been nervous to do this with cornrows for fear of cutting more hair than I wanted. Glad it worked out for you!

Hahaha, I just wanted it all gone, so I didn't have to think about that.
