Ok, my grnadfather as mint growing like crazy in the garden. I know there are commerical products w/ mint so here is some stuff I found out about mint and hair....

Dandruff Mint Rinse

Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 handful of fresh mint leaves

Directions:
Boil ingredients. Strain and pour into a container. Massage solution into the scalp, let dry without rinsing out

----------------------------------------------------------------------

soap recipe also calls for a pound of hand milled soap shreds, 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of oil.

Peppermint Lavender Soap - two tablespoons of ground Peppermint leaf, a few drops of Lavender and Peppermint essential oil. This is a great wake up soap for your morning shower or bath

(not sure if yopu can use on hair, but doesn't seem like it would hurt)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Peppermint Shampoo

Here's a tingly scalp-cooling remedy for the dog days of summer. The trio of mints cleanses your hair and refreshes your spirit, while jojoba and wheat germ rehydrate hair shafts thirsty from exposure to the sun. This shampoo is great for all hair types, but the moisturizing action of the oils makes it especially beneficial for dry, brittle hair. If you can't find bergamot mint essential oil, substitute five extra drops of spearmint essential oil.

2/3 cup liquid castile soap
1/3 cup distilled water
2 teaspoons jojoba
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
1 teaspoon wheat germ oil
20 drops peppermint essential oil
5 drops spearmint essential oil
5 drops bergamot mint essential oil

In a bowl, combine the castile soap and water and blend well. Stir in the remaining ingredients.

Transfer the shampoo to a prepared bottle and cap tightly. Stored in a cool, dark place, it will keep for 2 weeks. Shake before using.
Yield - This recipe makes approximately 1 cup, enough for 5 or 6 shampoos.

To use - Massage about 1/4 cup of shampoo into wet hair, working to a lather. Rinse off with plenty of warm water.

Shulta I think salt is bad for the hair when it's left on it. It causes friction and draws the moisture out of the hair cuticle.

I used a salt scrub on my hair last night and it DEFINED my curls. It was coincidental that I happened to come here to post it, and you guys were talking about salt. heh.

Curl Defining Salt Scrub:

1/2 Cup Sea Salt (real stuff)
3/4 Cup Carrier Oil (I used Olive because it's heavy and will coat well)
2 tbsp Honey (humectant)
2 tbsp Conditioner (I used Suave coconut)

I wet my hair in the shower and applied this like I was washing my hair... just scrubbed and rinsed well so the salt dissolved. After that, I used about a quarter sized amount of conditioner to rinse.

Another recipe:

The Best Glycerin Spray I Ever Used:

4 oz distilled water
1 tbsp each:
Honey
Olive Oil
Glycerin
Conditioner (Suave coconut)
2 capsules (100 mg) Evening Primrose Oil
3 drops EO ( I used Sweet Orange)

I put the glycerin in a cobalt spray bottle, added the Honey, Olive Oil and Conditoner. Then added the water and EO. Finally I shook the mixture and added the two capsules of Primrose.

I used this after I got out the shower and had done the salt scrub. Then I twisted (flat 2 strand twists back) covered my hair and went to bed.

My hair was super soft in the morning. I used the glycerin spray to refresh my puff.

Plus it smells like an orange dreamsicle.

@AlishaET
thanks for the clarification about the salt!
Has anyone used sugar?
I am going to sub the salt for sugar and see how that works after I've tried the salt recipe.
Thanks again AlishaET

Not sure about the sugar sub....maybe someone else can answer

Here is another conditioner

Winter Hair Conditioner

Ingredients
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
1 tablespoon castor oil
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon glycerine

Procedure:
Mix together the shorterning and castor oil and warm gently until the shortening is liquefied. In a separate container, mix together the water, vinegar, and glycerin. Warm the mixture but do not boil. By hand or using a blender slowly beat the oil mixture into the water mixture. Allow the conditioner to cool completely.

To use:
Apply 1 tablespoon to just-shampooed hair, rinse well, dry, and style as usual.

This is not much of a recipe as much as it is a combination of two different ideas: ACV and rosemary tea rinses. I tried a plain ACV rinse, but I like the results of this better. I am still experimenting a bit but I know it will be a weekly hair staple for me.
• Half a jar of rosemary leaves (needles) from the grocery store spice area.
• 2-3 teaspoons of dried basil and oregano
• Filtered water (distilled is even better)
• A couple of splashes of ACV
I repeatedly boiled, steeped and strained (twice) the herbs until the water was nearly clear during the last steeping. I placed the already strained stuff in a clean bowl (just in case I have to strain it again). I put the ACV into an old pitcher, poured the tea over it and filled with filtered water until I have about 2 qts. Refridgerate overnight (use within 48 hours) as the final rinse for conditioner. I also catch it in a bowl to re-pour over my head until my hair feels clear of conditioner. I have lightly rinsed my hair with cold water but next time I will just leave it on.

Sheaaloe.

I have tried to make sheaaloe with FOTE and it has separated. Here is something that worked for me.

1/2 cup shea butter
1/2 cup 100% aloe jelly/juice (I used Lily of the Desert)
1Tbs emulsifying wax
1Tbs honey
10-40 drops e.o.'s to your hearts content (i like ylang ylang and lavender.

Melt shea butter, honey, and wax in double boiler for 20 min.
Add aloe and e.o.'s and simmer for 3 min.
Let it cool naturally mixing with habd mixer every half hour or so. Should take a couple of hours to harden.

Enjoy,
ED

i'm recently in love with this from head to toe for winter 'ash season'
thick & rich body oil / hair milk
1 Tb Shea butter, melted
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup sweet almond oil
1/4 cup olive oil

mix together. add fragrance. put into 8oz bottle with a disk top, b/c as it cools the mixture will thicken too much for one of those flip-spout top bottles. i am finding this simply HEAVENLY right now for after-shower body moisturizing.

if you don't have this exact ratio of oils, the main idea is mixing a Tablespoon or two of melted shea butter into about 1 cup of liquid oil.
& that's all i have to say about that. ;)

13 consecutive nappy years: fro/locks/fro. i *heart* my hurr.
