No fear on this end Shatani. Use my EO's, 100% coconut oil, and water concoction to add moisture. When I think I need it, I use Dawn to clean thoroughly. I learned very quickly that I HAD to moisturize. My locs were no different than my loose hair in that department.

thanks for the kick in the pants, Corp! i know youre right, i just have visions of going awfulness running through my mind when i pick up the conditioner! lol

i tried a new vodka based clarifier and that turned out fabulously, so i have a whole arsenal full of de-gunking techniques....really no reason to be such a scaredy cat.

ACV rinse keeps the build up away. I use Carol's Daughter Hair Milk for soft moist non greasy locs.

I agree with sistah CN.... I HAVE NO CHOICE... I must...must, ya hear me, add moisture to my babies or loc'ing just won't work for me. This was how it was with my loose hair (natural and relaxed), so I knew going in to this process I had to make sure my moisture level was on point.

I now do an avocado butter/honey (and sometimes aloe vera gel) hot oil treatment EVERY SINGLE time I wash. I follow up with an extra extra long ACV rinse, to keep build up away, and my babies thank me for it.
    Thank you, Jah!!!! Thank you!!!!

I updated my picture album here on NP ya'll. Year 4! What a blessing to be a loc sistah!

My loose hair needed conditioner and I didn't see the point of stopping that practice with locking. Yes, conditioner AIDS in detangling but it never detangled my hair by itself--I had to use a comb/brush/fingers to get the job done. So conditioner never scared me and I've never had dry locks. I use ACV to clarify and I've been good so far...thankfully.

    ~best wishes~

Hmm... I may have to try that. I used when I was loose nappy for a little while but stopped because it wasn't enough for my loose hair. May be just right for my locs though.
