Today is a hopeless day. My hair has stopped "working". Actually it's been a hopeless month or so. In April I took my braids down after 5 months of having them in. My hair was doing so well. It was full and fluffy and my twist outs were nicely defined (with the use of product of course). Anyway, since then my hair has taken a downward spiral. Now its to the point where my twist outs are all useless disasters, my hair looks blah and the crown is breaking again. For a few months, I kept up the routine of daily spritzing and weekly DCing. Then I decided to wear a phony protective pony and for the last 3 weeks I've been wearing one of those nappy instant weaves (its quite funky but still).

Anyway, it just seems like my hair does best when its not touched at all and braided. Whenever I stick my hands in it, its a wrap. I will be rebraiding it this weekend, but am frankly getting tired of this routine.. Braid > Protect> Let Out> Breakage.. what's the use of being nappy if I can only wear my hair in protective styles. I wish there was some kind of Nappy Hair Dietician one could go to and have their hair diagnosed and put on a food plan. Anyway, I'm just at a low today and wanted to vent.
After almost three months, I've finally uploaded my May June & July Updates: http://public.fotki.com/Kinkykea/

I'm sorry youre going through a rough patch. I totally understand going to the "doctor" thought. My hair is in a little bit of a funk at the moment as well.

I put it in some mini braids and I'm going to try and pamper it to see exactly what it needs.

Hopefully you will feel better soon

I am going through something similar. My breakeage is only on my left temple(the side I sleep on). The only thing I think may have helped is to keep that section twisted and tied my hair down before I go to sleep. It is annoying bc in the morning that section of my hair is scretched from the twist and the rest of my hair is flat from sleeping/shrinkage. I just end up twisting my whole head and leaving them in. I hate to look in the mirror and one side of my fro is fluffy and plump and the other side is mushed down.

When was the last time you clarified? Or did a protein treatment?

I feel your pain. I am so use of my hair acting a certain way, but now it is acting another way and it is frustrating. I am thinking of clarifying and doing a protein treatment myself, they are both long overdue.

I believe the success of maintaining your natural hair comes from 1. the products you use and 2. the technique used to care for your hair. If the hair is not responding product and regime need to change...your hair sounds like its in serious need of revival! I created a Natural Hair Detox 101 album that may be of some help to you...good luck sis!

    Hi KK,

Can you share with us what products you are using when your hair is loose?

Your hair is so beautiful on your fotki and avatar. I just wanted to encourage you to use Zhara's Detox, I didn't try it but I'm sure it's good just by researching the ingredient and the effects they have on the hair. You should check out her album and her products as well. Maybe you need a new regimen. G'luck. Let us know what happens.
