Don't go back to a re-laxer. It's so not worth it. How do I know? Well, because I am one month post a chemical fire cream after 6 years of being natural. Why did I do it? Well, because I thought I had the mental and physical arsenal to handle relaxed hair after being a member of hair boards. I missed rollerwraps and dreamed of detangling under 5 minutes again. When I was natural, I was waistlength stretched, but there was a problem- my hair had no character, my texture loosened as it got longer and my hair styles SUCKED, no matter what I did. I had what some girls with natural hair desired- waistlength natural hair, but it was no fun. I considered cutting my hair to a more fabulous length, but got sad thinking that cutting it would be a mainstay for me as a natural just to get it to 'act right,' so I sacrificed hair health and scalp health for a chemical fire cream.

Right after I got the chemical fire cream, the thrill to have long, flowing, rollercurled hair was gone. Contrary to popular belief, RELAXED HAIR IS VERY CUMBERSOME!!! Oh and talk about shedding and tangles!! Geez!!!

I am now retransitioning and I am going to document every step I take. I am not beating up on myself for getting this chemical fire cream, cause hey, you live, you learn and I learned that natural hair is all that.

On top of all of this, guess what else? I have cut my hair and will get it cut even shorter this weekend to prepare for my transition, something I was trying to avoid as a natural. Interesting, I have no hangups about cutting off these relaxed ends. My official big chop month will be in August and I should have 10 months of new growth.

Ladies, step away from the re-laxer. Deep condition, henna, cassia, or aryuveda the hell out of your natural hair, breath, reflect and embrace your natural hair versus reaching for that so called 'quick fix.' It may be quick, but it sho' ain't a fix!

Well, that's how a lot of us learn. I got 'caesar' cut in '93, a chemical fire cream in '94, and cut it back down to a caesar in '96. It's hard to be happy with a perm once you've been natural.

    Good luck with the transition!

    Hello,

I saw posts earlier this year of your decision to return to being natural. I think this thread will definitely benefit anyone who may experience a moment of weakness about being natural. It's not easy to admit you made a decision you regret in an effort to educate others. Good luck and God Bless.

Thankfully that is what I remember of being r.elaxed, I have no fond memories that would convince me to go back, even while I'm sitting there for four hours flatwisting my hair.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The good thing is you won't have problems transitioning or at least you know what to expect. I think it's a good thing that you don't beat up on yourself. Like you said we live and learn.

You know when I first went natural, chemical fire cream didn't even cross my mind. It's when my hair got longer and I started to become bored with it that I decided to take another 'hit'

Girl yes!! Thanks to me not being so cheap like I was when I first went natural, I have a digicam and will be getting close up on the new growth. Since being one month post, I have felt my first set of lumpy bumpies and boy am I excited!! This transition will be wonderful and my album will be so full! I never thought I would be this excited about some dang new growth!
