i put twists in stepsons hair to start dreadlocks, his hair is nothing like anyone else in the house. its super course and scraggly short all around the edges. it reminds me of the wool pads for pots and pans and by the end my fingers were numb. i does NOT shrink with water (omg isnt that crazy?) it doesnt absorb water i tried to make it wet with water ,gel and oil and nothing got smooth or laid down. i coudlnt do coils with it. he's been combing his hair dry forever and using grease. did they cause damage or is that is natural texture? it looked like it was trying to curl if it ever got wet enough but idk. his dad keeps his hair shaved or low but did grow it out for 6 weeks and i saw it was naturally curly. my other stepson has curly hair only for a certain length like half an inch and our 1 yo has curly bushy long hair. i have to finish up to morrow. what should i be using or just keep doing what i did?

first thing that comes to mind is that maybe his hair needs to be clarified.
