Talking

so, i've been MIA for a little while, just cause i'm tryin to finish up my senior year of high school without crashing and burning. seriously, senioritis is NO joke, and it's really a struggle to focus sometimes.
but now i'm back, and i wanted to start a challenge for the summer.
when i'm in college next year, i really want to have a mostly wash-and-go lifestyle. i usually keep my hair semi-stretched, but that takes more time than i wanna be spending on my hair while away at school.
so i figure i might as well start this trend now, with an entire summer of wash and goes, low manipulation, and completely embracing my shrinkage.
who's with me? you don't HAVE to wash and go, or do the whole low-mani thing. i guess the only real hardcore rule is that you pretty much don't get to see your entire length for the whole summer. you can wear twists, cornrows, or whatever, but try to do everything on mostly shrunken hair.

Here's the info I want to post if you're down:
Routine: what you're doing, when you're doing it, and what you're using to do it
Starting Picture of your shrinkage now: this is just for fun-i know personally my shrinkage pretty much looks the same no matter how much my hair has grown, but heck, let's see. and maybe i just wanna see some dang pics, alrite? there, i said it. :P
Runs from: Sunday, May 17 to Sunday, August 30

Personally, I'll be stretching my hair out for both prom next weekend and my graduation in two weeks, so I'll say that we're each allowed to have a couple of stretched hair passes during the challenge. Maybe when you need to bust out a BAA at a barbecue for the haters or somethin like that, ya know? Just holla at your girls when you do so, okay? ^_^
alrighty, i think that's pretty much it. i'll keep a list of challengers somewhere in the thread, so i'll be poking folks to keep posting and sharing and whatnot.

Well Im going natural soon and i was going to wear my shrunken little fro to prom and graduation (even though ima look bald underneath my cap lol) so I would love to join the challenge but I have sum questions.

1. If you braid your hair at night and wash it in the morning is that a shrunken wash n go or is that a braid out?

2. Is it bad to wash n go everyday? Doesnt that break your hair or sumthing. Im new to the natural thing so i dont really know.

3. If you cant braid your hair at night..what do you do with it?

Get back to me with the answers and we can totally do the challenge 2gether. I have a TWA so i cant do much w/ it neways. Have fun at your prom cuz I know I will!!!! CLASS OF 09!!!!

P.S: What college r u going to? Im going to nursing school in NY for 2 years.

sure thing! i'll try my best to answer your questions! and i think you'll look super duper fly wearing your shrunken fro to those events! post pictures!
1.) hmm...i think that'd still be a wash and go, right? because for me at least, all the braidout "wave" pattern would be gone after wetting my head. however, i could be wrong.
2.)lots of folks have had success doing wash and gos everyday-it's all in the technique, really, and how YOUR hair responds to it. here's a thread with some ladies sharing what worked for them in summer 2008: http://www.nappturality.com/forum/in...owtopic=117170 I might start a new one for this summer.
3.) I would just throw on a satin bonnet and wake up in the morning and wash again cuz i'm lazy, lol. i plan to just wash and go pretty much everyday, so i'm not even going to attempt to braid it at night. with shorter hair, especially, i wouldn't even try. if you really don't wanna wash in the morning, you could always just spritz it a little with some water or some mixture. here's an older thread on spritz mixtures: http://www.nappturality.com/forum/in...howtopic=76562
i really hope you can do the challenge with me! it'll be fun fun fun! and heck yes, prom's gonna be fun-if you can post some pictures of how you end up wearing your hair, that'd be great!! ^_^
I'm going to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! my mommy's a nurse-which nursing school, if you don't mind me asking?

Ok kool!!!!! In that case, I would love to join your "Summer of love...and shrinkage" Challenge. Im BCing on the 27th of this month so I will definitely post pics and we can start then!!! This is so exciting

Well Im still waiting to hear from my first choice which is Long Island College Hospital but if I dont get in there i'll be going to Borough of Manhattan Community College. I know...community college is icky but I want to act and nursing is the most flexible career which allows me to make a reasonable amount of money and I can still go on auditions without conflicting with my Work schedule. I want to be an actress and I dnt want to be inschool for too long.

What are you going to study in college?

music09, there ain't nothing wrong with community college. You can go to school without getting into debt (tuition is dirt cheap) or a lot of it anyway, you can transfer all of your credits to almost any university (especially a public one in that state), and they have flexible class schedules. I went to a university, but I will tell people in a heartbeat to look into community college. I took a class one summer at my local cc and when they told me how much the class was going to cost, I asked "Is that it?" It was a third of what I paid at my school.

Yea, Ive heard that the tution is a hella cheaper than tuition at a university for the same education. I guess I just got sucked into the fantasy of living the on campus life. You know..the sororitys and campus parties but I guess that would distract me anyways. Im not a school person anyways. I just want to get my education and get out in as little time as possible! Lol.

I'm in! Will be doing daily wash-n-go's (probably sticking with VO5 or White Rain for my no-poos, followed by Oyin's Frank Juice and whipped pudding, if it ever comes, but I'll be using shea butter until then) and either wearing my curls as is or throwing my hair into a puff...is that allowed?

As far as nursing schools goes, I recommend community college to anybody! At age 19 I had already graduated from nursing school and was making bank while all my friends were just entering the second semester of college. Of course I went back later and now I have a Master of Health Administration so don't knock the JC and taking your time to get your education, it's worth it!

^^awww, man. i completely understand, though. that might be a recipe for disaster.
LuvnMyNapps, of course puffs are allowed! it's not really a protective styling challenge, just about embracing tha shrinkage.
