No. I have a Business degree. I've spent close to 20 years working in and studying finance and business. Now, I'm finally stepping out to start my own business. I'm just passing on what I've learned over the years.

I also want to see more Black women take control of their their lives in total. Having your own business means using your skills and abilities to the fullest and controlling your time, your income, etc. Why continue to give that power over to some employer who really doesn't care about you. Starting a business isn't easy, but I'll try my best to make it work.

Between my husband and I, we have had 4 different buisness ventures. 2 of them still going. One morphed into what we do now and the other is something we may revisit at a later date. We each had our own buisnesses while we were dating and then sort of married the 2 after we got married into this
    http://www.gaorganicoutpost.com/

We were doing alot of fairs and festivals, but when I got pregnant it came increasingly hard to do with a full time job as well. Set up, tear down and selling all day can be very draining!
Most of our sales during that time was online.
Anyhoo- baby girl is 4 months now and we have been back in the thick of things.
Our grand plan is to open up shop sometime down the road.

I also do placenta encapsulation and am working on my doula certification. It's just word of mouth right now, but in the next couple of months I plan to get my birth services buisness underway.
So much going on, but it's wonderful providing product and services that you truly beleive in!

    I love this thread!

I'm working on an etsy store and on building a consumer base for my ultimate goal, which is an online retail beauty supply store. I love making products but I have no desire to make products to sell them online full time. What I want to focus on more is the educational aspect. I am working on a few e-books and recipes that I'd like to make available (for free and purchase) that focus on providing the knowledge necessary to encourage women to take control of their own hair and skin care. For me its not really about making as much money as possible, but its about educating people and debunking the myths surrounding our hair whether its natural or relaxed.

As of right now I'm working on recipes, and I will be providing all ready made products in my store, but that's almost like an after thought to me. There are already so many ladies who make such great products.

I also plan to become a certified natural hair specialist in order to have some credentials that allow me to say that yes, I am qualified to offer advice on natural hair and products. I love to write and this is the best of both worlds for me. I don't know if I'll use it to actually do hair, but I do hope to be able to give consultations in the future.

I'm still working on my business plan and looking for other businesses with the same message/goal so that I can emulate them in certain aspects. What I want more than anything at this point is a mentor. I've done some searching and hope to find one that I'm compatible with soon.

I have started an intimacy education business. I demonstrate select products from Pure Romance. In the near future I plan to conduct workshops/seminars regarding intimacy and romance in marriage. My niche market is the married woman. Check out my website. www.gloriousmoments.vpweb.com

I have been a self employed therapist for years and this year, I took the plunge and started my own small centre for complementary/holistic health in central London. Excited, scared, but very worth it! Website in the works
