One part curly one part straight
Since my BC I've been able to really get to know my hair. I discovered thinning spots I didn't know I had that came from constantly wrapping my hair up at night. That's fine I know how to deal with that, however.....there is a issue I have of one side of my head having straighter, thicker hair and the other side curling up into ringlets. I don't know what to do about it either. If my hair is blown out it you can see where it is all even. When I do my styling in the morning the right side curls up tighter and it makes it look like I have a lil' gumby. I had my hair evened out and even thinned out some, but didn't want to overdue it too much. Anyone else experience this and how did you work with it?

Yeah, many people have multiple textures of hair on their head. I have several. I personally don't try to deal with it (in terms of making it appear uniform or anything like that) but if you search "multiple textures" you should get a lot of good info about styling and maintenance.

If you are dealing with one part curly and one part straight, blow drying your hair is only causing more damage for you. I say stop blow drying your hair and all heat styling in general if you want to have curly hair.
What is happening is that all that blow drying is damaging the elasticity of your hair. That is why your hair doesn't "snap back" into a curl pattern anymore. If you continue to use the blow dryer, all of your hair may end up being permanently straight.
So stop blow drying your hair, and after a few months of new growth start to trim away all of the heat damage hair (the straight ends).

Hold on, do you like the straighter hair or the tight curls? Imis confused now?
Is the thicker straighter hair more appealing than the ringlets? Like, is the ringlet section if you pull it out by stretching it with your fingers, is it the same length as the straighter hair? Or is it broken off and damaged and that is why it is shorter? Pictures or a better description may help.....Last edited by ms-gg; 01-30-2010 at 08:56 PM.

hey Aishahish
didn't you just BC? I had a similar thing with lighter/tighter girls on my loose curls on on the top of my head....after a few months they tightened up some (to the point where if i pulled on them they atleast reverted back to the curl they had)
i don't thinks there is too much you can do about the dual textures...but I do agree to ditch the heat!Last CFC: December 24, 2008 Nappy Born Day: June 18th, 2009 21 Months & Counting!

if you are really striving for uniformity and you have a couple of inches, the easiest way your probably gonna get that is by wearing wearing some type of cornrow/braid out.
...but all that extra daily manipulation to your twa wont help with the issue of the thinning areas.Last CFC: December 24, 2008 Nappy Born Day: June 18th, 2009 21 Months & Counting!

HI Aishahish
I'm having the same issue. I did the big chop 1/26/10 and my left side (temple area) is straigter than my right side; and a small section of my crown is straight. My sylist (permed hair) told me it will become curly. I believe it's definitely from wrapping the hair every nite. I was a serial wrapper..LOL..I'm s knew to this I'm up all nite researching. What kind of products are you using? and how do you wrap your hair at night? I'm using the Organics Olive Oil hair stimulator. That makes my hair really soft, along with olive oil, and coconut oil. I do have shea butter, but I can't really tell that it's working..Not trying to use to many products. I am looking for a good shampoo, so if you know of any please let me know. I've posted things on the boards, but no one is responding. I think I'm being impatient..
Good Luck
