African Hair threading
Hi I am a ghanian american and my mother always used to talk about when she was in africa she always used to get her hair "threaded" this is when black african string is wrapped around the hair as a protective hair style. I searched all over the web for further info but the search has been limited. Ive been wanting to learn how to do this for a while. Does anybody know about this? Can anyone give tips or can make a tutorial?

When I typed in "Hair banding" on youtube I got a few results that may be similar to what you are looking for. Most of them were using it to stretch their hair but I did see mention of using it as a protective style. I guess it would depend on how you did it. Also, some used headbands or rubber bands, but I've seen it done with string at some point I just can't remember where. hope this is some help

Maybe contact sweetafrica on this site or in her album. I remember she had her hair thread wrapped once. http://public.fotki.com/SweetAfrica/...pped_002a.html
I recall crazycoil wearing her hair like this too, but I couldn't find her old album.
HTH.

Well here in America we call it "silky dreads," "wrapped dreads," or even "silky braids" I've read that SOME are done with synthetic hair instead of with thread.

Could be this be the thread?

From what I can gather the thread is made of vinyl, but it seems hard to get. Which means....
