Default GLAMOUR Beauty Applauds Natural Hair

    Hello ladies,

I haven't been here in a while so my apologies if this has been posted already.

I was browsing through msn and looked at THIS slideshow of "The Ten Best Hair and Make-up Looks Ever. Period." I'm definitely not a person who usually gives a hoot what beauty articles/mags have to say about beauty, since they tend to be too eurocentric for my taste, so I was surprised that the woman who put this together mentioned the "natural look" AND had a picture of a woman of color AND quoted an excerpt of a book by a napptural woman (Linda Jones who wrote Nappyisms).

    So I thought I'd share

I guess they are making up for that article a couple of years back where they declared that natural hair on black women was a "Glamour Don't.":

Jordan is gorgeous and I love her hair.

I really need to know how to do makeup like that.

I was thinking the same thing! Perhaps they've repented.
Either way, I was mostly impressed by the fact she quoted the Nappyism book.

I only "look" at those magazines, I rarely read them because they don't never know what they are talking about! I just look for the different styles of clothes to wear and the trends, rarely the articles because they usually have no basis! However.....that picture of her is FIERCE and her make up is on point!!!

I like her hair, but I'm not impressed. Glamour, like most magazines, is full of crap. It ALWAYS goes back to appealing to white people and a Eurocentric standard. They can't ever seem to get a beautiful black woman who doesn't in SOME way fit that standard. If she's dark, she HAS to be skinny (and preferably tall). If she has natural hair, she HAS to be of a lighter complexion (and the hair is preferably longer and bigger). It's always SOMETHING.

Once, JUST ONCE, I'd like to see a black female in a magazine who I could actually say resembles me and other females I see. JUST ONCE!!!!!

I feel what you're sayin, but we must remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. I'd rather see baby steps toward a less Eurocentric aesthetic than no movement at all. The model doesn't look like me either, but at least she could be my cousin! She's very attractive.
