    - The maintenance

    - The chemical smell in the salon

    - The burning on the scalp

    - The fear of water in the first week of the touch up

    - Sleeping with rollers... humm, scratch that one...

    - and in a general sense, the time wasted at the salon.

    1. the burning and trying to endure it long enough to get it straight.
    2. the runny scabs for at least 2 weeks
    3. the dandruff flakes(since I went natural I hardly have any dandruff)
    4. the battle with new growth
    5. the knowledge I was chemically altering my natural hair to conform.
    6. And I agree with Crowning Glory, I miss my bangs!

--spending HOURS in the salon or a solid two hours perming & flat ironing my own hair
--the stiff & brittle feel of my relaxed ends
--wearing those horrible plastic gloves that come with the perm kit
--put 57 different products on my hair before applying the flat iron
--the sizzling & crackling sound of the flat iron
--IMMEDIATELY having to wrap my hair up after a flat iron session to preserve the straightness
--wearing a hair wrap when I exercise (which just made me hotter & unable to focus on the workout)
--thinking more about what my hair was going to look like than my husband when in bed
-searching for & wearing a shower cap

So many other things I do NOT miss about the permie days. So glad I am done with that part of my growth!

    Default The scalp burns . . .

    • The thin, lifeless, brittle, always breaking, weak, crumbling hair. Reminded me of shreadded wheat sometimes.
    • The strands of hair that would just fall out, like when the leaves fall off the trees in autumn.
    • The scabbs, ohhhh the scabbs.
    • Not realllllly liking my hair.
    • For all of this work, I couldn't really do anything with it, except let it just hang there. It was so straight it didn't hold a curl, just a slight curve.
    • The $$$. I spent a lot of $$$ on services I was never completely satisfied with. And I'm cheap y'all!!
. . . thinking back, if I had been burnt like this anywhere else on my body I would have immediately headed (no pun intended) to the emergency room. Hmmmm?

I hated the scabs the most! I'd scratch my scalp and realize I'm peeling a scab. I'd get them on my forehead, the tips of my ears, and my scalp. The brittle feel of my hair afterward was annoying too. I also hated how they made my hair look 'wispy' and think even though I had a head full of hair.

I hated that I couldn't find someone to do it right. I hated the price of them as well. It was all just too much. All that money down the drain.

Still makes me mad when I think about it. lol

    I do NOT miss
    ...having no edges
    ...having thin hair
...spending $80 every 6 weeks and $40 every 2 weeks in between for a wash because I didnt know how to do it myself.
    ...looking like every body else.
The recipe for beauty is to have less illusion and more Soul, to retreat from the belief of pain or pleasure in the body into the unchanging calm and glorious freedom of spiritual harmony. - Mary Baker Eddy

So much fun to torture myself with these memories
All the above, plus add in the hours lost on a Saturday afternoon-especially if your stylist triple booked and even though you got there 30 minutes early didn't start on your hair until 3 hours after your scheduled time.
