Sorry your having a bad time with your hair. I really do feel you pain as about 4 years ago the same thing happened to me (but with loss hair).

I lost about a 1" wide 3" long patch of hair just behind my hair line behind both of my ears. I tried creams, pills, vitamins and none of that helped.

When I was referred to a scalp specialist I was told that is was mostly down to the fact that I wore braids 80% of the time and was currently really stress out (I had lost someone close to me). Once I calmed down, and started looking after myself it started to grow back.

My hair is still thinner in thoses areas, but its hanging in there. Could you have the same issue? Have you been to see a professional?

The best thing to do is to go to a dermatologist that specializes in hair loss. This could be any where from an inflammation to the scalp, stress, alopecia, low estrogen, mineral deficiency, autoimmune issues, hormonal (also have your thyroid check to rule this out) or a variety of other reasons. I had something similar to this in the nape of my neck. My Dermatologist did a scalp biopsy and requested blood tests. The scalp biopsy was inconclusive however, on my blood tests, my iron was slightly off.

Since I wore braids for some time, he attributed the loss to tension from the braids. I also have loss to the temples, so he started giving me the cortisone shots to the scalp. It takes time but it is slowly growing back.

Again, see a Dermatologist that specializes in hair loss.

    Good luck.

i had suffered with the same breakage that became known to me about 6 weeks ago. my nape area has resembled the same as yours. ive begun treating my hair to prevent any further breakage by useing organic root stimulator hair products mainly the scalp scrub , uplifting shampoo, and hair manyo conditioner. this has improved the condition of my scalp and ive seen some hair growth growing back on the patches of my hair that was breaking off. after washing my hair i would apply sulfur8 orginal formula directly on my scalp.
hopefully this will work for you as well

I think it is due to other factors than the locks. I wear locks and went through a bad period of hair loss. The culprits were frequent retightenings for Sisterlocks, iron deficiency, history of wearing tight braids, high blood pressure medicine and a family tendency for female balding. My iron levels are up and I combined the Sisterlocks. The hair loss has stabilized and I have some mild regrowth. What the future holds, I do not know. Also, have your thyroid levels checked.

Yes, your hair is telling you that something is going on wrong in your body! You can stop it, but you have to get to the root cause. If there's some type of inflammatory condition going on under your scalp you have to get a corticosteroid to stop the inflammation that can kill your follicles. You can feel your scalp stimulating organic ingredients that can regenerate hair loss-but that's after you find the root cause so you can reclaim your hair!

    Causes of hair loss:
stress, post operative reaction 6 months after surgery, diabetes, stroke, working in areas where there's hgh levels of aluminum,CCCA, immunodeficiencies.....Your hair and nails and teeth usually will manifest symptoms first as your body redirects it's energy to preserving your vital organs by redirecting nutrients to other parts of your body....line up some appts: dentist, endocrine dr, dermatologist and that will be a beginning. The best!

I am glad to report that this problem has stopped in my hair. I did not go to the doctor but, I did pay attention to how I was wrapping my hair at night and made sure my hair was never dry. I started a vitamin E regimen also. I use the 1000 IU for my scalp and the 400 IU orally. My hair is naturally thin but no more bald spots. Now I have a bunch of baby lucks that have grown in.

Hi @Bossfemme I am glad to hear your locs are on the mend. You may want to add a hair vitamin also instead of just the vitamin E. Healthy hair usually needs a host of different nutrients. Plus water, and a healthy diet will help as well. You want as much preventive care as possible to avoid this issue again. Peace and Blessings.
