My son is also mixed, and his hair looked like yours when I started his locs with finger coils (the comb wasn't working out). I am a HUGE advocate of washing your hair as often as possible, so a week later I loosely latched his coils before I did his first shampoo. Some (only some) of the coils came out, but that's normal. I simply coiled them again. It wasn't long before he could wash his hair without problems.

It did take my son's hair longer to lock than mine, but I think that is due to texture.

All that to say, you don't have to start over. You will have locs, and they will be gorgeous!

From looking at pictures, about 3-4 months, in part because I latched his hair after the first month. By 10 months (again from pictures), his hair was well on the way to locing, even though he was free forming by then. Now, 2 1/2 years later, he is definitely locked.

As others have said before, there is no timetable for when you hair "should" be locked. My son's hair took nearly 2 years; mine took barely over 1 year. Just be patient, and try not to obsess over your babies (easier said than done)

ok, since this is a new method for me and i am unfamiliar to how it works, i got questions.

    1. with my hair type how long will it typically take for my hair to lock with these comb coils?

    2. I notice that people with kinky'er hair then mine that have comb coils they look tighter, and more like dreadlocks at first, will this effect the outcome of mine or will they all look the same in the end?

3.what will my loctician do to maintain my hair when i go back to her next week for a maintenance? palm roll?

    4. at some point are my coils taken out ? to me it just looks like my hair is being held together with gel, i dont see how that makes it lock? is it the new root growth that locks?

and any other tips/unasked answers, that could help me would be appreciated

    thanks!
its gonna take you quite a while for them to lock like that, i was told my hair would take atleast a year and your hair is way finer than mine
