How can I tell if all the relaxed ends are gone?

Hi everyone.On December 26th of '09 I decided to get comb twist as starter locs.Almost 6 months later I have decided to take them out because the tips have not locked at all,on the base and the middle have.One of my friends asked me "Do you think you cut off all the relaxed ends really good?"
My question is how can you tell if all the relaxed ends are all out?Im starting a new set of locs next week with a new method(two strand twist).And also the comb twist looked weird,there were like big clumps in the middle of them and they look so weird so Im using another method

I would say "just look for straight ends"
but that's not always the case because some of you natural hair may appear straighter than you are expecting it to...and then you'd just be cutting more than you need to.

If you doubt you trimmed well enough, you can go back and take another 1/2 inch or so all around.
