Not sure what class this is called but I thought it was neat that other people think our hair is beautiful. (enough of us wear theirs)

The first two pictures were from a hair salon (I think it was Japanese) that offered curly perms (as well as braiding and locs). It don't think it's associated with any fad or class. Not sure where the third pic comes from.

(Assuming that no offense is meant at all by this ~style~ and it really is simple emulation) I won't say this upsets me, but there's definitely something very jarring about it all. Why can't people just be happy looking like themselves? They look dumb to me #kanyeshrug

I completely agree that people should be happy looking like themselves. BUT, I must say a part of me likes seeing people want to be nappy! (I can't help myself)

I think it looks pretty, but that's because I like the texture of nappy hair. I heard the process is pretty bad. It's like a curly perm except the hair is wrapped around really really thin rods. It still uses yucky chemicals.

Japanese people go to some serious (damaging) lenghts to acheive the 'nappy' look..I think it looks nice..it reminds me of Chinese mix people that you get in the Caribbean and in parts of the south Pacific..they 'look' basically south east Asian but have afro hair..looks cute

ETA: also one thing I notice with most Japanese groups who adopt these somewhat fanatical approaches to adopting other subcultures, is that they are largely respectful, interested and acknowledge where the styles originate from..where I live we have a massive Japanese/Jamaican dancehall scene..and I have always found them to be a lovely bunch, even when sporting fake dreads..lol

I think the pictures above are lovely and I'm glad that other ethnicities appreciate our hair.

I realize that the above photos are likely the result of a chemical process, but I promise you, I knew a Chinese guy who had a wooly, fro-ish texture. I highly doubt that he was biracial because he was first generation American born Chinese. It may just be very recessive, but I think he just had an adorable Chinese fro. So the idea of Asians with froey hair does not bother me at all. Although the majority of kinky curly hair is probably found amongst those of African descent, just like some of us have more naturally straight or wavy hair, other ethnicities can have kinky curly hair too. Diversity is just awesome. =)
