I've had my locs since 2003 and the thought of removing them has not entered my mine. My brother, who was my loc mentor, removed his 11 yo locs this past summer. He is now sporting a baldie and my sister who is six years loc'd has cut hers to shoulder length. Fallen soldiers, but I am standing tall.
7 year locs, relaxing and enjoying life

I'm by no means a 'veteran'. I've only had mine for 17 months (I'm having a brain fart moment - that's a year and seven months, right?). This is my first real set, but my second (and successful) real attempt at locs. I've already experienced loose hair, as I transitioned for over a year, then wore my natural hair in an afro for a couple years before trying to start organic locs (and failing miserably....). While having loose hair was nice, and it was fun having my big fluffy hair out and wild and free, being so tender-headed, and the hassle of trying to do something to my hair, and my hair being so stubborn, makes me so glad to have locs. I don't see myself being without locs anytime soon. Even if something changed and I ended up with a TWA, it wouldn't be long before I had locs again.

You've had your current set for 6 years and they're that long?!!

Either locs get long quickly after they've matured for a time, or you have super growth!

I know, right?? *Checks AnaisKarim's length in that other thread again and wonders what her growth was like as a loose nappy.*

*Bets she has a ridiculous anagen phase and is jealous.*

I have been loced for 2.5 years, and I have no intention of taking them down.

This is a comp shot of my starter braidlocs and back in the summer when I hit six years. But they just grow like WEEDS now. When I just chopped them they were a few inches longer than this 6 year shot. Also I have combined a lot over the years so they are bigger due to maturity plus combining.

    Well, shoot.

I'm not a length fanatic, but I'm a bit envious. You started with such long hair, and I STILL can't even do a simple ponytail without having a facelift and headache.
