I hate to ask a question that I'm sure has been asked a billion times before, but I'd like to know people's ideas about this.
Background: I've been latching my locs since they were about 2 inches long. They are now about 5 inches long. I began locing 6/8/10. (My profile pic is out dated. Sorry.)
The question is, how often do you retighten YOUR hair by latching?
I think I was latching my hair too frequently (every week or 2) and I don't want to weaken my locs. I want to know what other people are doing.

The general recommendation is minimum 4 weeks, two weeks is too frequent and can increase the chance of weakening the loc.

yup, min 4 weeks, now 6-8 weeks-the less the better and your hair will reward you with even more new growth the longer you wait! but not long enough to 'bud' into a free form lock(over 12 weeks)

I latch every 8-10 weeks. If the babies start looking crazy, a spritz of water and a scarf tends to calm things down temporarily. More than likely I'm going to be one of those folks with fuzzy mature locs, so I'm not really stressing over fuzz/frizz like I once did. My locs still rock and someone tells me so nearly every day...Woop woop!

Question, did you ladies with braidlocks latch more often when they were newer?
I've latched twice in my 3 months... once at 4 weeks and just recently 7 weeks later... and I felt like I was looking crazy at 7 weeks mainly because my braids aren't very swollen yet so the difference was extremely noticeable.
Will the growth blend in better as they mature?

I've always had my hair latched at 8 weeks...even at the beginning. Everybody's locks are different. Some people's braids swell up fast, some slow, and some not at all. Also, the combination of this could happen. Locking is not an exact science. The puffiness is just a part of locking. You could wear a head band or scarf if they are getting too out of control before latch time.
