New Member, And the beginning of my hair journey.
Hello Everyone!
My name is Asia. I'm 17 years old; I joined this website to motivate other women while on their natural hair journey and to become more motivated on my hair. Just a little backgroud on myself: My first relaxer was at 11 years old and it was not my idea. My stepmother was the one doing my hair at the time and she told me my hair was thick, and she wanted to make it easier for HER to manage. While I'm not mad at her for the relaxer, I do wish she would have waited until I was old enough to make my own decision. Anyways, I've been getting regular relaxers every 3 months for the last seven years. My last relaxer was August 2010 right before school, and at the three month mark in November 2010 I decided to hold off on the relaxer because I was curious about my natural hair. A few weeks ago I did alot of research and have decided to start my hair journey. I made a BIG goal, very big goal to grow my natural hair out waist length, which is about 28-30 inches. It's alot, and it's going to take alot of time and work, but I am so prepared for it. I tried talking my father into helping me out, financially im not independent of course lol. He thinks this is just a "phase", and that I won't like my natural hair. He is very wrong about the first part, and he may be right about the second part, but even if he is I can always go back to relaxer. But I don't think I will. I know I can do this, and I'm going to do this. He'll have to come around eventually. (: I hope we all can help motivate eachother on this wonderful journey we've all decided to take!
xoxo.Last edited by YoungAndPretty; 01-17-2011 at 03:51 AM.

Welcome! It is great to hear of an independently minded young lady willing to take control of her beauty (perm free). The site has so much to offer so check out threads on transitioning, protective styling, and enjoy the picture that members share of various styles. You are among family so enjoy.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Congrats and good luck to you. Taking care of your natural hair will probably be less expensive than maintaining relaxed hair. I don't think you should worry about cost (if that's what you mean by 'support') too much.
