^It means your individual hairs are on the thinner side. I too have fine hair, a locker with the number of locs that I have would have thicker locks. It's the opposite of having coarse hair like Asians.

Just FYI, your hair may not be fine or coarse. It might be average.

Thin strands. A good way to estimate strand thickness is taking a shed hair and holding it up to daylight sun. If you can really see it your hair is coarse, if it almost blends in and looks transparent you have thin hair.

I have fine hair but I have a lot of strands so unless my hair is weighed down with products or bound in pencil size box braids it doesn't look fine. One of my daughters has fine and fuzzy hair.
Now that my hair is locked--it doesn't look fine at all. Keeping all the shed hairs has given me a thick head of hair at last.Nappy hair isn't burdensome. Dispel the myths early--blogging nappy hair care for girls.

I have found that the longer my hair gets(9-10 inches now) the more awkward it looks when it's not up or in a puff/pony.
As to the person who mentioned locs taking care of the 'thin' look, that's one of the reasons i'm on the fence. I actually love locs on fine hair b/c they look more like, or close to sister locs. I'm not a fan of bigger/thick locs.Transitioned for 7.5 months. Now I'm FREE!!!!
